Leads the team that drives the development of Vanguard's brokerage, investment, and point-in-time advice methodology according to broader business goals, policies, and competitive strategy. Ensures methodology is implemented appropriately across relevant areas of Personal Investor and the Vanguard brokerage platform.
Core Responsibilities:
- In alignment with Regulation Best Interest (Reg BI) and utilizing expertise in Reg BI, partners with Investment Strategy Group (ISG) to adapt methodology guardrails specific to Personal Investor clients and is accountable to Advice Policy Committee and Broker Dealer Oversight Committee to deliver recommendations on products either as a committee member or meeting participant. Partners with business training teams to develop crew training materials and conversation guides in line with guardrails.
- Drives the development of crafting capability within Personal Investor Investment Product centered on generating an independent “house view” methodology and thought leadership for Personal Investor’s investment product offering, primarily focused on non-Vanguard Fund / ETF solutions (i.e., cash, margin, fully paid lending, etc.).
- Enables the Personal Investor division to efficiently refresh, improve, and implement new methodology and guardrails across the self-directed client base. Develops and translates educational thought leadership on products that are primarily consumed by Personal Investor clients.
- Fosters healthy collaboration with ISG and enterprise partners to develop “house view” methodology and thought leadership. Enables a risk-smart partnership with OGC on developing investment product content.
- Manages a portfolio of “house view” methodology and thought leadership pieces. Engages with key stakeholders (i.e., Marketing, Self-Directed, etc.) to ensure the relevance, use, and prioritization of content for future development.
- Surveys competitor thought leadership pieces or client insight forums to support ideation of new concepts for development.
- Develops goals for the Investment Product capability that center on elevating investor outcomes, purposely separated from the Sales goals to achieve product adoption, ensuring that content produced represents independent recommendations that are fair and balanced.
- Collaborates with internal partners to develop implementation plans related to investment processes, policies, and procedures and ensures all downstream impacts are considered when developing changes to Vanguard's methodology.
- Hires, evaluates, and supervises crew. Provides guidance and training as necessary to develop crew. Sets performance standards, reviews performance, and makes informed compensation decisions in accordance with all applicable Human Resources policies and procedures.
- Serves as a subject matter expert regarding the overall financial markets and the related legal, tax, and regulatory issues that impact Vanguard's methodology. Oversees initiatives to identify opportunities to enhance Vanguard's methodology.
- Participates in special projects and performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of ten years related work experience. Eight years’ experience in investments and analytics or portfolio management with prior supervisory experience preferred.
- Undergraduate degree or equivalent combination of training and experience. Graduate degree preferred.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- CFP and/or CFA preferred.
- This job requires a regulatory license and/or registration (e.g. FINRA, state, etc.). These will be determined by Compliance based on role-specific duties.
