About the Role

The Director of Information Technology is responsible for leading Houzz’s internal technology strategy and operations. This includes oversight of IT Support & Systems Engineering, Business Systems, and Program Management functions. You will define and execute the roadmap for core IT functions—including enterprise SaaS platforms, end-user computing, internal tools, and infrastructure—ensuring performance, scalability, security, and alignment with company priorities.

You’ll partner cross-functionally with engineering, security, and business leaders to shape the company’s internal tech environment, champion modern IT practices, and ensure operational excellence across systems and services. This includes driving global hardware and software lifecycle management, overseeing IT service delivery, and supporting compliance readiness (e.g., SOC 2, SOX).

This is a highly cross-functional leadership role requiring clear communication, strong technical intuition, and a track record of scaling IT operations in complex environments.

Houzz is a fully remote, globally distributed company. Success in this role requires leading distributed teams effectively, building trust across departments, and balancing high-level strategy with hands-on execution.

What You’ll Do

  • Define and drive the IT strategy, ensuring scalability, performance, and alignment with business needs
  • Lead global IT operations including service desk, hardware lifecycle, endpoint management, and procurement
  • Build and lead a high-performing IT organization, including managers, engineers, and support staff
  • Improve IT service management (ITSM) practices, helpdesk responsiveness, and automation of manual workflows
  • Establish and track operational KPIs, surfacing insights and driving continuous improvement
  • Support hiring, career development, and management training within the IT org
  • Serve as a strategic partner to executive leadership—communicating risk, performance, and initiatives with clarity
  • Collaborate with business leaders across the organization to implement and guide technology use (Sales, People, Marketing, Finance, etc)
  • Partner with Engineering, Security, and Compliance teams on audits, secure architecture, and tooling integrations
  • Ensure systems, data, and processes are compliant with industry standards (e.g., SOC 2, SOX)
  • Manage vendor relationships and technology contracts, driving licensing optimization and ensuring vendor performance aligned with organizational priorities

At a Minimum, We’d Like You to Have

  • 8+ years in Information Technology leadership or technical operations roles
  • At least 2+ years experience managing managers (e.g., senior manager or director level)
  • Experience operating in remote or distributed organizations
  • Experience with implementing and auditing compliance frameworks such as SOC 2 (Type I/II), SOX, or equivalents
  • Experience with NIST and/or ISO 27001 security frameworks and remediation and/or maturing of security operations
  • Familiarity with MDM and BYOD frameworks
  • Proven success in scaling IT functions through periods of change or growth
  • Strong communication skills across technical and business stakeholders
  • Strategic mindset with willingness to roll up sleeves when needed
  • Strong people leadership and mentoring skills

Ideally, You'll Also Have

  • Experience in both startup and enterprise settings
  • Familiarity with CRM/ERP and integration of backoffice systems
  • Exposure to M&A, high-growth environments, or post-funding scale-ups
  • Background in ITSM, service delivery frameworks, or process automation
  • AWS experience (hands-on or architectural), particularly in support of internal tools or automation
  • Proven track record of driving cross-functional initiatives and aligning IT with broader business goals
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in a technology-related or business management field
