Profile Overview

As the Director of Engineering, you will lead and grow our engineering team, defining technical strategy and ensuring the successful delivery of our product suite. This role requires a hands-on leader with deep technical expertise, strong leadership skills, and a proven track record of leading engineering teams at a SaaS company. You have experience managing the day-to-day, driving innovation, and collaborating with stakeholders to align technical initiatives with business goals.

Your responsibilities

Technical leadership and strategy:

  • Define and execute the engineering vision, ensuring alignment with the company’s product and business objectives.
  • Oversee the architecture and development of a scalable, high-performing, and secure discoverability platform.
  • Stay ahead of industry trends and best practices to drive innovation and technical excellence.
  • Ensure high standards of software quality, including performance, security and reliability.

Team Management and Growth:

  • Manage and mentor engineering teams, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Establish best practices for hiring, onboarding and professional development.
  • Promote diversity and inclusion within the engineering organization.

Execution and Delivery:

  • Drive the development lifecycle from ideation to deployment, ensuring timely and high-quality releases.
  • Ensure operational excellence by implementing DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, and robust monitoring systems.
  • Monitor KPIs and engineering metrics to track progress, identify bottlenecks and optimize workflows.
  • Building the engineering budget once a year, ensuring constant improvement with a strong focus on cost optimisation.
  • The role is expected to be approximately 80% focused on leadership and strategic oversight, with around 20% dedicated to hands-on coding and technical contribution when needed.

Cross-functional Collaboration and Stakeholder Management:

  • Partner with Product, Sales, Marketing and Customer Success teams to ensure technical alignment with customer needs.
  • Communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders in a clear and concise manner.
  • Advocate for engineering initiatives that drive business growth and customer satisfaction.

What You bring to the table

  • 10+ years of experience in software engineering, with 5+ years of experience in a leadership role at a SaaS company.
  • Proven experience managing, scaling, mentoring and coaching engineering teams, ideally in a B2B SaaS company.
  • Strong technical background in modern web technologies, cloud infrastructure and distributed systems.
  • Experience building and maintaining scalable, high-performance SEO or search-related products is a plus.
  • Deep understanding of software development best practices, CI/CD, DevOps and security principles.
  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams, including product managers, designers, and stakeholders.

What’s in it for You

  • Ultimate flexibility: We’re 100% remote. You can work from wherever you like, whenever you like.
  • Freedom and autonomy: We’re a high-trust team, and you’ll be given lots of independence to solve problems in your own way — with plenty of help from the team when you need it.
  • Minimum bureaucracy: We don’t like to get bogged down with meetings and red tape. We like to be efficient and keep momentum steady & sustainable.
  • Small & friendly team: We help each other out, have fun, and joke around.
  • Our network: We are a community of entrepreneurial SaaS professionals that regularly exchange ideas, knowledge, learning and expertise with each other internally.
  • Flexible time off: We want you to recharge your batteries when needed.
  • Learning Budget: We want you to grow your skills so we provide you with a generous budget to use for classes, conferences, books and other learning resources.

Prerender is part of saas.group, and we have a shared goal of succeeding together.

We don’t just simply offer you to “take a job with us” but rather to “join us on this journey” to build the world's largest platform of independent SaaS companies.
