Overview

At Fanatics Betting & Gaming (FBG) we bring together Betting, Gaming, Markets, Promos and Loyalty to build seamless, fan-first wagering and rewards experiences. Our Loyalty & Promos organization builds the rewards and promotions customers experience at Fanatics— owning FanCash (our digital rewards currency), loyalty progression (tiers and perks), and promotional offers across SportsBook, Casino, Commerce, and beyond.

We’re hiring a Director of Engineering, Loyalty & Promos to own the technical strategy, architecture and delivery of our loyalty, rewards and promotions platform — including our real-time, personalized bonusing engine. You’ll scale and lead cross-functional engineering teams (FE, BE, SEMs, TPM, QE, Platform), own operational excellence (on-call/rota, incident response and SLAs), and partner with Product, Commerce and MarTech to make promotions reliable, reusable and fast to market.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and grow multiple engineering teams delivering reliable, scalable, cost-effective software; evolve architecture and engineering standards.
  • Partner with Product and Platform leaders to shape priorities, sequencing, and technical strategy; provide input on product capabilities and trade-offs.
  • Own domain strategy and execution: set direction, align across adjacent domains, and ensure decisions scale beyond your immediate area.
  • Build org health: attract, develop, and retain engineering talent; ensure role clarity, succession planning, and leadership growth.
  • Drive operational excellence with clear reliability, performance, and cost goals; continuously improve engineering practices.
  • Optimize for developer experience: establish DX goals/metrics and remove friction in tools, processes, and platform capabilities.
  • Resolve architectural contention and guide teams toward pragmatic, maintainable solutions (simplify/optimize/extend as appropriate).
  • Communicate outcomes and org health via KPIs, metrics, and status updates to executives and key stakeholders; represent the org as needed (including occasional travel).
  • Must be open to occasional travel to Fanatics Betting & Gaming offices and other locations for conferences, events, meetings, and team-building activities

Required Qualifications

  • 10+ years in software engineering, including 5+ years leading leaders (managing engineering managers).
  • Proven ability to lead multiple teams and set/defend engineering quality and delivery standards.
  • Strong architecture and system design skills; able to decompose complex initiatives across teams.
  • Deep backend/distributed systems experience in designing and operating scalable, reliable services.
  • Strong judgment on prioritization and resourcing; can build a clear business case when needed.
  • Excellent communication and cross-functional leadership in a fast-paced, evolving environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience thriving in fast-paced, high-growth startup environments.
  • Experience with Kotlin and Kotlin MP
  • Extensive experience creating, influencing, and leading cross-functional matrixed teams to deliver complex, organization-wide initiatives.

If you possess some of these qualifications but not all of them, we still encourage you to apply!
