TITLE: Director, Engineering 

 

WHAT YOU’LL DO:  

As Director of Engineering, you’ll lead multiple agile teams to deliver innovative, enterprise-scale software solutions that drive strategic outcomes. You’ll shape technical direction, foster a high-performance culture, and champion modern engineering practices across your teams. This role is pivotal in aligning product delivery with business value, mentoring engineers, and scaling impact across portfolios. It’s a unique opportunity to influence the future of technology in a dynamic, customer-focused environment.   

This role will lead some of our financial products/services in the Duck Creek ecosystem. 

  • Lead multiple agile product teams to deliver high-quality, enterprise-scale software solutions. 

  • Drive strategic planning, resource allocation, and execution across engineering portfolio. 

  • Foster a culture of accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement. 

  • Mentor and develop engineering team members to build high-performing teams. 

  • Oversee technical execution of complex software development initiatives. 

  • Champion adoption of modern cloud-native technologies and scalable architectures. 

  • Collaborate cross-functionally to align engineering outcomes with business objectives. 

  • Manage stakeholder relationships and ensure transparency in delivery and risk management. 

  • Guide process improvements and define best practices across engineering functions. 

  • Promote inner-sourced tooling and shared technology standards across teams. 

  • Leverage AI tools and practices to enhance engineering productivity, decision-making, and innovation. 

  • Lead with a customer-centric mindset, ensuring solutions meet performance and reliability standards. 

  • Inspire a strong technical community and culture of excellence within the organization. 

 

WHAT YOU’VE DONE:  

  • Bachelor’s or Masters Degree and/or equivalent experience relevant to functional area 

  • 7+ years of experience in software development or related technical roles with a minimum 5 years of leadership experience managing global engineering teams 

  • Experience with financial, payments or billing systems 

  • Strong background in Agile Scrum methodologies 

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES & BEHAVIORS: 

  • Experience leading cloud-native engineering teams in a SaaS B2B environment 

  • Experience with public cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, Google Cloud) 

  • Demonstrated ability to drive innovation and transformation across engineering teams 

  • Proficiency with containerization and orchestration tools (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes) 

  • Familiarity with CI/CD tools (e.g., Jenkins, pipelines, container repos) 

  • Experience with infrastructure automation tools (e.g., Terraform, Ansible, Python) 

  • Knowledge of observability tools (e.g., Prometheus, Splunk) 

  • Strong understanding of continuous improvements for engineering teams leveraging metrics/KPIs, AI Dev Tooling (Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, etc.) 

  • Strong understanding of customer lifecycle and enterprise product development 

  • High emotional intelligence and ability to mentor and inspire technical leaders 

  • Proven ability to lead multiple concurrent projects in a fast-paced environment 

  • Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills 

  • Experience in driving continuous improvements and operational efficiency of an engineering team 

 

WHAT ADDITIONAL INFORMATION YOU MAY WANT TO KNOW:  

Travel: Up to 10% 

Location: Remote US 

Work Authorization: Legally authorized to work in the country of job location. The Company does not sponsor visa petitions for this position. 

 

Duck Creek Technologies supports a flexible-first work environment and has employees throughout the United States. Based on a fair and equitable compensation philosophy, we have five (5) United States pay markets based on regional validated survey market data. The expected salary range for this position is between $134,500 and $217,100. This position is also eligible for an annual bonuses. The final compensation may vary due to the above listed factors and be determined based on experience and other factors permitted by law.
