Role Overview

The Director of DevOps will serve as the strategic and operational leader responsible for shaping the future of our cloud infrastructure and security posture. This role is central to enabling engineering velocity and ensuring the resilience, scalability, and security of the systems that power our business. As a key member of the engineering leadership team, the Director of DevOps will define and execute a multi-year vision that aligns platform capabilities with company objectives, ensuring that our infrastructure empowers rapid innovation while maintaining the highest standards of reliability and protection.

This leader will oversee the design, evolution, and day-to-day stewardship of our AWS environments, including compute, networking, storage, container orchestration, and core runtime services. By driving adoption of best practices in observability, performance optimization, infrastructure-as-code, and resilience engineering, the Director of DevOps will elevate our operational maturity and ensure that our systems consistently meet or exceed expected performance and reliability outcomes.Security is a foundational pillar of this role.

The Director will help the organization maintain compliance with industry standards, reduce risk exposure, and cultivate a culture where secure design and implementation are embedded into every build and deployment. They will establish and scale a DevSecOps practice that integrates automated security controls, continuous vulnerability scanning, secure-by-default workflows, secrets management, and dependency hygiene into the development lifecycle.Through strong leadership and cross-functional collaboration, the Director of DevOps will help position the company to scale confidently, reduce operational friction, and ensure that our infrastructure remains a durable competitive advantage as the business grows.


What you do each day:

  • Lead the strategy, roadmap, and execution for DevOps, cloud infrastructure, reliability, and security automation across the organization.
  • Oversee the architecture, scalability, and operational health of AWS-based infrastructure, including compute, networking, storage, and Kubernetes environments.
  • Drive continuous improvements in reliability, performance, and fault tolerance through resilience engineering, observability enhancements, and data-driven system tuning.
  • Implement and maintain Infrastructure-as-Code practices—primarily Terraform—to support consistent, automated provisioning and configuration.
  • Build and mature DevSecOps capabilities including vulnerability management, secrets management, dependency scanning, and secure configuration baselines.
  • Partner with Security and Compliance teams to meet and maintain standards such as SOC2 and other relevant frameworks.
  • Lead effective incident management and post-incident review processes while fostering a culture of operational excellence and blameless learning.
  • Manage cloud cost visibility, forecasting, and optimization to ensure responsible and efficient use of AWS resources.
  • Mentor and grow a high-performing DevOps team, fostering strong collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Collaborate closely with engineering leadership to align infrastructure and security priorities with broader product and company goals.

Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of experience in DevOps, cloud infrastructure, platform engineering, or related roles.
  • 5+ years of engineering leadership experience managing DevOps or infrastructure teams.
  • Deep expertise with AWS services, architectures, and operational best practices.
  • Strong knowledge of Kubernetes, container orchestration, and cloud-native runtime environments.
  • Proven track record implementing DevSecOps practices, including vulnerability management, secrets management, and secure configuration standards.
  • Experience running large-scale, high-availability production systems with a focus on reliability and performance.
  • Strong understanding of PCI or other relevant compliance frameworks.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence stakeholders across engineering and business teams.
  • Strong scripting or programming abilities (Python, Go, Bash, etc.).

This role is open to candidates and the expected salary range for this role is $165,000 - $195,000+10% bonus. The specific salary for the successful candidate will be determined based on permissible, non-discriminatory factors such as skills, experience, and geographic location. This role is also eligible to participate in Housecall Pro’s equity plan and the following benefits: health care insurance (medical, dental, vision, disability), employee assistance program, 401(K), flexible time off, paid parental leave, tech reimbursement, and other company benefits.
