Our technology helps customers accurately track ad spend, understand the full customer journey, and drive profitable growth.

We're experiencing rapid growth, have strong product-market fit, and are looking for the right people to help us scale. This is a rare chance to make a meaningful impact at a fast-moving, high-growth company. At Northbeam, you'll join a team of driven, collaborative, and talented individuals who value personal growth and excellence. We'd love for you to be part of our journey.

We're a remote-friendly company with offices in San Francisco and Los Angeles.

About the Data Science Organization

Northbeam’s Data Science organization serves as the intelligence layer of the company, owning the end-to-end science behind marketing measurement and optimization. This includes developing and advancing our core methodologies—Media Mix Modeling (MMM), Incrementality testing, causal multi-touch attribution (MTA), calibration and validation frameworks, and large-scale experimentation systems. The team is also responsible for AI-driven insights, recommendations, and the creation of reusable, scalable, and rigorously validated scientific systems that power Northbeam’s product and customer value.

About the Role

Northbeam is at a pivotal stage of evolution. We are hiring a Director of Data Science to help scale our lean, high-impact data science function into a structured, multi-pillar organization supporting MMM, Incrementality, Insights, and Recommendation systems.

The Director of Data Science reports directly to the VP of Data Science and will operate within a lean team today while playing a central role in scaling the organization toward approximately 10 data scientists over the next year.  This role will drive both the technical roadmap and the evolution of the data science organization itself. The role blends strategic leadership with execution excellence,  defining priorities, shaping team structure and operating practices, and guiding resource allocation to maximize impact.

You will lead parallel technical initiatives across multiple workstreams, ensuring scientific rigor, production quality, and strong cross-functional alignment. Success in this role requires comfort operating in a startup environment, leading through ambiguity, maintaining high execution standards, and bringing strong technical depth. The ideal candidate is energized by early-stage building, hands-on execution, and the opportunity to shape a function from the ground up.
Your Impact
  • Own execution of the data science roadmap across MMM, Incrementality, and adjacent modeling initiatives.
  • Make technical judgment calls on modeling direction across causal inference, experimentation, time series, and applied ML,  balancing methodological rigor with production priorities.
  • Establish repeatable standards for model validation, deployment readiness, and release governance.
  • Lead cross-functional initiatives end-to-end, from problem framing through launch, driving clear milestones, accountability, and high-quality standards.
  • Manage and develop senior data scientists and technical leads.
  • Hire, mentor, and develop top talent while continuously raising the bar through rigorous reviews, coaching, and feedback.
  • Develop a deep understanding of customer pain points and desired outcomes, translating them into clear technical requirements and data science solution designs.
  • Translate statistical outputs and modeling results into customer-facing features and enterprise-grade solutions.
What You Bring
  • 8+ years in data science or ML engineering roles
  • 5+ years in people management roles.
  • Experience managing at least 5 direct reports, including senior ICs.
  • Demonstrated ability to hire, develop, and retain senior technical talent, while building and sustaining a high-performing, inclusive team culture.
  • Master’s degree (or equivalent experience) in statistics, econometrics, machine learning, or a related quantitative field.
  • Proven experience leading multi-team technical initiatives in high-ambiguity environments
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize under constraint and communicate tradeoffs clearly
  • Strong technical judgment across causal inference and experimentation frameworks (even if not personally building every model)
  • Experience reviewing and guiding modeling approaches across multiple methodologies (not necessarily the deepest modeler, but a strong evaluator of quality).
  • Experience deploying production ML/DS systems in collaboration with Engineering.
  • Familiarity with modern data platforms and MLOps practices.
  • Thrives in a fast-moving startup environment, balancing rigor with speed and pragmatism.
  • Cares deeply about your team and their long-term growth and success.
Bonus Skills & Experience
  • Experience with identity graph, attribution modeling, or experiment design in marketing/advertising contexts.
  • Prior work in MarTech/AdTech or B2B SaaS.
  • PhD  (or equivalent experience) in statistics, econometrics, machine learning, or a related quantitative field.
  • Experience scaling data science teams in early-stage or post-acquisition startup environments.
  • Strong communication and narrative skills.
