Cloudinary is seeking a Director of Content Strategy to build and scale a modern, data-driven content engine that strengthens our thought leadership, expands our organic presence, and supports business growth.
This leader defines how Cloudinary creates, structures, and delivers content across channels, partnering closely with teams across Marketing, Product, and Developer Relations to bring high-quality, audience-focused content to market. The role blends strategic planning, editorial excellence, operational rigor, and strong cross-functional collaboration.
Responsibilities:
- Content Strategy and Thought Leadership
- Build and own Cloudinary’s content strategy, with a focus on thought leadership and organic discoverability.
- Work with Product Marketing, Product, Developer Relations, and internal SMEs to develop compelling perspectives, narratives, and high-value content themes.
- Partner with the Communications team to leverage and extend executive visibility, earned media programs, and analyst-facing storytelling.
- Search-Informed Content Planning
- Collaborate with the Growth team to turn keyword insights, search trends, and competitive data into informed content priorities.
- Develop content programs that elevate Cloudinary’s topic authority and support the organic search strategy defined in partnership with the Growth organization.
- Ensure content aligns with SEO best practices while maintaining strong editorial quality and audience value.
- Channel-Specific Content Development
- Work with channel owners—including Web, Social, Email, DevRel, Events, Partners, and Communications—to adapt content to the needs, formats, and performance expectations of each channel.
- Develop assets tailored to their environments, from long-form editorial to social content, videos, customer stories, and event narratives.
- Align with Web and Creative teams on site taxonomy, metadata, internal linking, and content structuring for optimal discoverability and user experience.
- Persona-Based Content Excellence
- Create content that resonates across multiple audiences, including developers, creatives, product leaders, marketing executives, and business decision-makers.
- Apply persona insights and messaging frameworks in partnership with Product Marketing to ensure accuracy, relevance, tone, and depth across content types.
- Develop repeatable frameworks that guide how content is tailored to different personas and stages of the customer journey.
- Editorial Leadership and Content Operations
- Lead development of editorial guidelines, voice and tone frameworks, and scalable content structures that ensure consistency across regions and teams.
- Oversee a centralized editorial calendar to coordinate planning and visibility across cross-functional stakeholders.
- Standardize and optimize content creation processes to improve quality, efficiency, and cross-team alignment with a strong data-driven focus on content effectiveness.
- Cross-Functional Leadership
- The individual will curate a strong bench of contract writers, editors, and researchers while instilling a culture of excellence and collaboration.
- Manage external agencies and freelancers to expand content capacity.
- Establish and lead a cross-functional content council that aligns inputs, priorities, and execution across Product Marketing, Growth, Web, DevRel, and Communications.
- Measurement and Continuous Improvement
- Define content performance KPIs in collaboration with Growth, Analytics, and Web teams to align with broader marketing measurement frameworks.
- Review content performance data to refine planning, improve effectiveness, and evolve content programs.
- Implement content hygiene and refresh cycles to ensure long-term competitiveness and discoverability.
- Use AI tools for research, optimization, structuring, and content repurposing to enhance team productivity.
About You:
- Bachelor's or equivalent degree in communications, marketing, journalism, or related field.
- Brings 10+ years of content marketing leadership experience and a strong portfolio showcasing depth across diverse content types and channels.
- Proven success in developing a content architecture that serves the entire organization's goals around thought leadership, organic visibility, and audience engagement.
- B2B SaaS experience preferred, with a creative B2C writing style.
- Expertise in SEO-informed content planning and collaboration with Growth/SEO teams.
- Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with both technical and business audiences — from developers to marketing leaders — and experience mentoring creative talent.
- Experience partnering across functions, including Product Marketing, Growth, Demand Gen, Web, Brand, DevRel, and Communications
- Strong analytical skills and familiarity with content, search, and engagement metrics
- Experience using AI tools for content ideation, optimization, and efficiency
- Leadership experience hiring, developing, and scaling content teams
- Understanding of CMS, DAM, and content operations tools supporting structured content delivery
