The Need

For over 25 years, IJM has pioneered the work to protect vulnerable people from violence. 9 out of 9 times in the last decade, IJM’s Justice System Strengthening Projects have reduced slavery and violence between 50 and 85% for very large populations of people in poverty. As we grow to expand our impact to protect 500 million people from violence, we are seeking a Director, Content Strategy, North America.

The Director, Content Strategy, North America will develop a comprehensive regional content strategy that fuels a movement of justice until all are free. We’re looking for a passionate leader to drive our content strategy and create compelling, performant content across the entire customer journey from awareness to championing. The right candidate takes an audience-first approach to ensuring prospects, donors, and partners get the most value from their engagement with IJM.  Laddering from this strategy and under your leadership will be:

  • Audience and market insights;

  • Integrated campaigns;

  • Donor products within a global product framework;

  • Channel strategies and tactics; and

  • Comprehensive content calendar.

This position requires a highly solution-oriented leader, with a curious spirit, and who thrives in finding ways to collaboratively go further together, then separate. The ideal candidate will be driven by an audacious spirit of “what could be” and who is deeply inspired to “see justice roar like a mighty river”.

This position is hybrid (onsite Tuesdays & Thursdays) if located in the Washington, DC area or remote for non-local candidates. It reports to the VP, Marketing & Communications, North America and is only available for candidates with the right to work in the US.

Key Result Areas:

The success of this role is measured by the following KRAs:

  • Development and execution of a comprehensive content strategy including channel & campaign specific strategies that successfully enables the raising of $150M annually.

  • Launch of integrated donor journeys across audiences.

  • The retention and acquisition of $20M in revenue via the successful deployment of current sustainer fundraising products.

  • Leading the marketing of a 6-year capital campaign that successfully raises $750M and launches the next stage of growth for IJM.

Responsibilities:

Leadership and Management

  • Develops a comprehensive content strategy for the North America region that fits within our global marketing framework, campaigns and initiatives.  With a special emphasis on being driven by audience insights, being concept led and with the focused outcome of raising $150M+ of funding annually.

  • Build a world class center of innovative content development that adapts to our changing market, emerging platforms and new channels for rapid scale.

  • Orchestrate multi-channel content operations from planning, production, distribution, and measurement to optimization; including a newly launched 6-year Capital Campaign.

  • Lead Content team through individual and team professional development, spiritual development.

  • Own and steward IJM North America’s Content Strategy budget.

  • Successfully steward and mature IJMs brand voice, posture and tone across all content.

Strategy & Knowledge Development & Implementation

  • Create a comprehensive content strategy & calendar to collaborate with cross-functional teams, align marketing campaigns and dramatically scale our reach and engagement.

  • Utilize segmentation provided by the Global Marketing team for the development of personas and donor journeys to support our frontline fundraising teams.

  • Ensure content is optimized for search and user experience across all channels.

  • Develop and manage a measurement framework that connects content to pipeline growth and product-led growth. This includes setting and achieving performance metrics for content engagement, channel growth & campaign success.

  • Partner with the Global Story team to align content strategy with the story pipeline, including identifying new content opportunities.

Networking & Partnership

  • As a member of the NA Marketing leadership team work collaboratively with peers leading creative, digital, comms, events and brand partnerships.

  • Collaborate with the Global Director of Marketing on audience insights, segmentation and product frameworks to ensure the deployment of best-in-class products & campaigns across audiences in North America.

  • Partner with the US and CA based mass, midlevel and major donor fundraising teams to ensure consistency of strategy & journey.

General Tasks

  • Participate in IJM’s community of spiritual formation.

Qualifications:

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, business, or related field.

  • 10+ years of professional marketing experience.

  • 5+ years leading teams and strategy.

  • Demonstrated track record of developing and executing successful marketing campaigns with multiple channels.

  • Exceptional knowledge of non-profit marketing and mass fundraising trends pertinent to driving audience growth and engagement.

  • Experience in developing and delivering personas.

  • Experience with A/B and multivariate experiments.

  • Demonstrated ability to meet demanding deadlines and manage tasks in a fast-paced work environment.

Technical Competencies

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills tailoring content for intended audiences.

  • Demonstrated ability to handle several strategic priorities at once.

  • Adept at relationship building with internal and external stakeholders.

  • Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills.
