This position could be a Director & Actuary or Director & Assistant Actuary depending on the skills and experience of the candidate.
This position is a key role within the Actuarial Department supporting The Hartford’s $5 Billion Small Business segment. The Director partners with territory product managers to drive business results in a geographic territory. The individual will manage one or two territory actuaries as well as have responsibility for their own projects, driving growth and profit initiatives for all lines of business. The position will partner with other actuarial teams and very closely with the Product Management organization to design strategies and solve problems specific to their region. The individual should have management experience, strong technical skills, and a collaborative / innovative style with the ability to influence business partners.
Responsibilities:
• Manage one or two territory actuaries
• Create and implement state action plans to hit growth and profitability objectives within each state
• Become fluent in all three Small Commercial LOBs – Auto, BOP, and Workers Comp
• Support Small Commercial strategic initiatives and projects
• Develop new analytic tools and enhance current tools
• Share knowledge among the Segment Actuarial Team
• Provide input and recommendations for state rate reviews across all lines
• Lead team on proactively finding and sharing important results before business issues occur
Qualifications:
• FCAS or career ACAS with at least 5 years of P&C work experience. Commercial lines experience, attractive.
• Self-motivation, creativity, time-management, project-management, and customer-management skills.
• Strong technical and analytical skills with the ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
• Experience managing others is preferred.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to convey technical concepts to audiences of various levels and diverse technical backgrounds.
• Flexibility and willingness to adapt to changing priorities.
• Innovative / problem solving approach.
Location:
This role will have a Hybrid work arrangement, with the expectation of working in an office in Hartford, CT; Charlotte, NC; or Chicago, IL three days a week (Tuesday through Thursday).
Compensation
The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford’s total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:
$132,720 - $221,160
The posted salary range reflects our ability to hire at different position titles and levels depending on background and experience.
