Dietary Aide - Full-Time and Part-Time

  • Pay: $14 an hour
  • Schedule: Hours will be determined; this swing role covers both first and second shifts.
  • Weekend requirement: Availability every other weekend is required.
  • Weekend differential: Extra hourly pay is offered for weekend-only shifts.
  • Benefits: Benefits start after 30 days of employment.

Position Summary

The Dietary Aide assists with meal preparation and service under the supervision of the Cook or Assistant Director of Dietary Services while helping keep the dietary department clean, safe, and well organized.

Key Responsibilities
  • Help prepare food under the direction of the Cook or Assistant Director of Dietary Services.
  • Get service items ready, including beverages, cereals, breads, salads, and desserts, using menus, diet cards, and resident preferences.
  • Carry out oral and written instructions accurately.
  • Prepare meal carts and staff dining areas as assigned.
  • Clear soiled dishes from dining areas and operate the dishwasher, including loading and lifting heavy racks.
  • Monitor and record dishwasher temperatures.
  • Store food and supplies correctly, including labeling, dating, and putting away unused food and condiments.
  • Clean assigned kitchen, storage, dishwashing, diet kitchen, cabinet, and refrigerator areas.
  • Participate in in-service training and put new skills and work practices into use.
  • Safely operate kitchen and emergency equipment after training and when assigned.
  • Follow safety standards and comply with department and facility policies.
  • Perform other duties as needed to support smooth facility operations.

Minimum Requirements
  • Some high school coursework, a high school diploma or equivalent, or a comparable mix of education and experience.
  • Ability to read, understand, and follow recipes and directions.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to follow instructions related to recipes, dietary requirements, and meal orders.
  • Ability to serve meals and help residents eat when needed.
  • A compassionate, patient, and professional approach when working with elderly residents and their family members.
Preferred Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Food service training or experience preferred.
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand and walk throughout the workday as needed.
  • Ability to reach, stoop, bend, lift, carry, and handle food items, supplies, and equipment.
  • Ability to work safely with cleaning chemicals and agents.
  • Ability to lift or carry 50 to 75 pounds and work in changing temperature and humidity conditions.
  • Must meet workplace health requirements regarding infections or communicable diseases.
