DevOps Engineer II

SUMMARY

Provide mid-level DevOps engineering support for the FTM Support Program, enabling secure, reliable, and continuous delivery of mission applications used across Navy Fleet Readiness and Training systems. Responsible for implementing automated pipelines, managing containerized workloads, securing CI/CD toolchains, and supporting deployment workflows aligned with DoD cybersecurity policies, RMF control requirements, and Navy enterprise standards. Work closely with software developers, systems engineers, cybersecurity personnel, and Government stakeholders to ensure operational stability, performance, and compliance within multiple enclaves, including production, test, and development environments.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

· Design, build, and maintain CI/CD pipelines using tools such as GitLab, GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps, Jenkins, or equivalent platforms supporting FTM system development.

· Manage pipeline secrets, credentials, and tokens using secure vaulting mechanisms compliant with DoD policies.

· Implement pipeline optimization strategies, reduce build times, increase reliability, and ensure traceability of all deployment bundles.

· Ensure CI/CD environments adhere to DISA STIGs, RMF requirements, vulnerability management timelines, and ATO documentation needs.

· Participate in cybersecurity reviews, accreditation activities, and evidence production for RMF packages, including SCTM, POA&M inputs, IA control validations, and audit support.

· Manage Kubernetes/OpenShift clusters including RBAC, namespaces, network policies, secret management, liveness/readiness probes, and monitoring integrations.

· Develop and maintain Helm charts, deployment manifests, and cluster resources to support scalable, resilient workloads. Infrastructure as Code (IaC).

· Implement and maintain IaC using Terraform, Ansible, or similar tools to configure environments consistently across multiple enclaves.

· Version-control infrastructure definitions and participate in change control and configuration management reviews.

· Automate recurring tasks such as patching, configuration validation, log ingestion, and backup routines across development/test/production environments.

· Monitor system performance using tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, Splunk, ELK, or similar platforms; configure alerts and dashboards for proactive system oversight.

· Troubleshoot CI/CD, infrastructure, container, and application-level issues across complex hybrid environments involving multiple services, dependencies, and enclaves.

· Collaborate closely with development teams to identify build failures, deployment issues, and environment inconsistencies.

· Work with systems engineers, developers, and database engineers to align deployment workflows and infrastructure upgrades with functionality milestones.

· Produce and maintain clear documentation for pipeline configurations, infrastructure modules, deployment procedures, and system configurations.

· Assist in maintaining configuration management baselines and technical artifacts required for DoD audits or

operational readiness reviews.

· Support the Program Manager and technical leads with weekly and monthly reporting inputs, highlighting DevOps metrics, system stability, and deployment outcomes.

· Maintain regular and punctual attendance.

· Perform other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

None.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

· Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.

· Three (3) to five (5) years of DevOps engineering or infrastructure automation experience in enterprise or Government environments.

· Hands-on experience with CI/CD tools (GitLab, GitHub Actions, Jenkins, Azure DevOps).

· Strong knowledge of containerization (Docker) and orchestration (Kubernetes/OpenShift).

· Familiarity with DoD cybersecurity guidelines including RMF, DISA STIGs, ACAS/Tenable findings, and secure configuration baselines.

· Experience with IaC (Terraform, Ansible) and scripting languages such as Python, Bash, or PowerShell.

· Active DoD Secret security clearance (generally, U.S. citizenship required).

· Must obtain and maintain any necessary security access and/or background checks.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS

· Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

· Experience supporting Department of War or comparable federal agency or systems.

· Experience deploying workloads in government cloud environments (AWS GovCloud, Azure IL).

· Knowledge of monitoring frameworks (Prometheus/Grafana), log analytics (Splunk/ELK), and pipeline observability.

· Familiarity with microservices design patterns, API gateways, and distributed system architectures.

· Experience supporting accreditation activities or working within ATO-bound systems.

· Understanding of Navy enterprise environments, readiness systems, or FLTMPS-aligned workflows.

Work is expected to be remote; however, the company reserves the right to require onsite work.

Position consists of sitting for long periods of time, bending, stooping, crouching, and lifting weights up to 20 pounds. Frequently uses hands/fingers for manipulation of keyboard and mouse. Compensation & Benefits:

• Pay: $115,000-$125,000 annually
