About our Company

Foresight Diagnostics is a molecular diagnostics company advancing non-invasive cancer detection through highly sensitive, cell-free DNA–based liquid biopsy technologies. Our proprietary methods, originally developed at Stanford University, are designed to enable earlier detection of smaller tumors and support more personalized, effective cancer treatment strategies.
We operate at the intersection of molecular biology, bioinformatics, and next-generation sequencing (NGS), translating rigorous scientific innovation into clinically meaningful solutions. As our organization has grown, we have built robust laboratory operations, cross-functional collaboration, and scalable processes to support clinical development and long-term commercial readiness.
Foresight Diagnostics offers a collaborative, high-accountability work environment where quality, precision, and continuous improvement are core to how we operate. Team members have the opportunity to contribute to impactful programs, work alongside experienced scientific and operational leaders, and grow professionally within a well-resourced and mission-focused organization. Foresight Diagnostics is headquartered in Boulder, Colorado.

About the Role

We are seeking a DevOps Engineer to build, automate, and optimize the software delivery pipelines and infrastructure that support our industry-leading diagnostic test development and production environments. You'll focus on implementing CI/CD best practices, automating deployment workflows, and bridging the gap between development teams and infrastructure. Working primarily with GitHub Actions, Terraform, and cloud-native tools, you'll enable development and bioinformatics teams to ship software quickly, reliably, and securely across both GCP and AWS environments. This position is flexible for fully remote (US-based), onsite in Boulder, CO, or hybrid.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and maintain CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions to automate software builds, testing, and deployment processes.

  • Implement infrastructure-as-code solutions using Terraform to support repeatable, version-controlled infrastructure deployments.

  • Automate deployment and configuration of applications, bioinformatics pipelines, and supporting services across GCP and AWS.

  • Create and maintain automation scripts in Python and Shell to streamline operations, reduce manual work, and improve deployment reliability.

  • Implement and manage containerized applications using Docker, Kubernetes, Google Cloud Run, and AWS container services.

  • Collaborate closely with software engineering and bioinformatics teams to understand requirements and optimize deployment workflows.

  • Configure and maintain monitoring, logging, and alerting solutions to ensure visibility into application and pipeline health.

  • Implement security controls for CI/CD pipelines including secrets management, access controls, and vulnerability scanning.

  • Manage configuration management solutions for application environments and bioinformatics workstations.

  • Create comprehensive documentation for deployment processes, runbooks, and troubleshooting guides to support regulatory compliance.

  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to reduce deployment friction, improve build times, and increase developer productivity.

  • Provide technical support and mentorship to development teams on DevOps best practices, tooling, and cloud-native patterns.

Requirements

  • 5-10 years of experience in DevOps, software engineering, or related roles with strong automation focus.

  • Proven expertise building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines, particularly with GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Jenkins, or similar tools.

  • Strong hands-on experience with public cloud providers, specifically GCP and AWS.

  • Proficiency with infrastructure-as-code tools, particularly Terraform, for automating infrastructure provisioning.

  • Solid experience with containerization and orchestration technologies (Docker, Kubernetes).

  • Strong scripting and programming skills in Python and Shell/Bash.

  • Experience with configuration management tools such as Ansible, Chef, or Puppet.

  • Understanding of software development lifecycle, version control workflows (Git), and branching strategies.

  • Experience implementing security best practices in CI/CD pipelines and cloud environments.

  • Strong collaboration skills and ability to work effectively with software engineers, bioinformatics scientists, and operations teams.

  • Proven ability to balance quick wins with long-term architectural improvements.

  • Strong written communication skills with demonstrated ability to create clear process documentation.

  • Learner's mindset with a pragmatic, results-oriented approach to problem-solving.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in regulated industries (FDA, healthcare, clinical diagnostics) with understanding of validation and compliance requirements.

  • Background in software development or engineering with understanding of application architecture.

  • Experience with bioinformatics workflows, computational biology pipelines, or Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) tools.

  • Familiarity with observability platforms (Prometheus, Grafana, Datadog, New Relic).

  • Experience with testing frameworks and test automation in CI/CD contexts.

  • Knowledge of GitOps practices and declarative deployment patterns.

  • Cloud FinOps experience or cost optimization initiatives.

  • Contributions to open-source DevOps tools or automation projects.

Compensation & Benefits

This role is hiring at an annual salary of $125,000 - $145,000 and is eligible for bonus and equity offerings. Foresight offers benefits including paid vacation, sick time, and parental leave (if applicable), alongside medical, dental, vision, life, disability coverage, flexible spending accounts, and a 401k with company match.

You will be working on interesting problems with extremely high impact. We promote the professional development of our employees and will encourage upward mobility within the company for high performing employees. Foresight Diagnostics is an equal opportunity employer. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, color, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, age, marital status, veteran status, or disability status.
