Job Summary

TYLin is seeking an accomplished Design Manager – Rail + Transit to lead the planning, coordination, and delivery of complex transit infrastructure projects across the New York City region. This role is ideally suited for a senior engineering professional with a deep understanding of MTA capital projects and demonstrated experience overseeing multidisciplinary design teams delivering Transit Systems, Track, and Station & Facilities projects.
As a Design Manager, you will serve as the technical and managerial focal point for design excellence, constructability, and regulatory compliance, working closely with clients, design partners, and construction teams, particularly within Design-Build environments.

Responsibilities & Qualifications

What You’ll Do:

  • Lead and manage multidisciplinary design teams delivering rail and transit projects for MTA and related agencies.

  • Oversee the development and integration of Transit Systems, Track Design, and Station & Facilities Design packages across all project phases.

  • Serve as the primary design interface with MTA, ensuring compliance with agency standards, procedures, and review processes.

  • Manage design schedules, budgets, technical quality, and risk, ensuring alignment with project delivery commitments.

  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to senior and mid-level engineers across multiple disciplines.

  • Coordinate closely with construction partners on Design-Build projects to support constructability, phasing, and value engineering.

  • Support proposal development, design strategy, and pursuit activities for major rail and transit opportunities in the NYC market.

What You’ll Bring:

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license (required).

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline; Master’s degree preferred.

  • 15+ years of progressive design-related engineering experience, with a significant focus on rail and transit infrastructure.

  • Demonstrated experience delivering MTA transit projects, including familiarity with MTA standards, processes, and stakeholder engagement.

  • Strong background in Transit Systems, Track Design, and/or Station & Facilities Design.

  • Prior experience delivering Design-Build projects within the transit sector is strongly preferred.

  • Proven ability to lead large, multidisciplinary teams and manage complex technical interfaces.

  • Excellent communication, coordination, and client-facing skills.

Additional Information

TYLin is committed to pay equity. As part of that commitment, we have provided the base compensation range of $200,000 - $250,000 annually for this position and local market. We recognize that each candidate brings a unique set of skills, experience, education and competencies to the table that will be reflected in our offer.TYLin is proud to offer exciting career development opportunities.
