Role Summary:
Join Filevine as a Database Reliability Engineer and play a key role in scaling, optimizing, and ensuring the performance of our high-volume SQL Server and PostgreSQL environments. You'll lead with technical excellence, collaborate across teams, and mentor others—all while working on complex, meaningful challenges that power a critical legal tech platform.
Responsibilities
- Provide leadership, mentoring, and excellent judgement by being responsible for:
- Performance tuning of Microsoft SQL Server and PostgreSQL databases, optimizing at the server, database, and query levels
- Scaling and monitoring of Databases
- Assist teams in designing, building databases and schemas
- Use, develop, and build tools and alerts for monitoring database performance, reliability, and maintenance plans
- Provide documentation for developers and internal staff on database-related topics
- Triage escalated production issues with cross-functional teams
- Work within assigned team to complete duties as assigned, while mentoring, training, and reviewing more junior engineers, helping to define team development and engineering best practices, and leading the teams in implementation of these best practices
- Be part of an on-call rotation with other team members to provide 24/7/365 database reliability support
- Communicate frequently, clearly, and effectively with various technical and management audiences
- Analyze and improve the scalability and performance of high-volume, information rich web applications
- Participate in lively engineering debate, making a strong and logical case for well considered opinions, while appreciating the opinions of peers
Qualifications
- 8+ years of experience maintaining and optimizing large production databases
- Expert Microsoft SQL Server and PostgreSQL troubleshooting skills
- Expert in tuning queries generated from ORM’s
- Expert T-SQL skills, and any common scripting language
- Experience with Powershell or Python
- Familiarity with object oriented programming languages, ideally C#.
- Familiarity with Amazon Web Services
- Experience with AWS RDS and DMS
- Shows mastery working independently on assigned projects as well as mentor and train others exemplarily
- Experience with Redis, ElasticSearch, DynamoDB, MSSQL, PostgreSQL, Snowflake, Docker, AWS, Git, GitLab, Octopus, Terraform and CI/CD Tools
- Ability to work independently on assigned projects or with other team members as requested
- Ability to complete work assignments efficiently and productively
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Microsoft MVP or other Microsoft SQL Server Database or PostgreSQL Certification preferred
- B.S., M.S. in computer science, information systems, a related field; comparable certifications; or equivalent direct work experience
Compensation Information: $140,000 - $180,000 base
The base salary range represents the low and high end of the salary range for this position. The total compensation package for this position will be determined by each individual’s location, qualifications, education, work experience, skills and performance. We believe in the importance of pay equity - the range listed is just one component of Filevine’s total compensation package for employees. This position is also eligible for a paid time off policy, as well as a comprehensive benefits package.
