Database Engineer Principal 

Overview:  

Join our dynamic technology department as a Senior Staff member in Database Engineering at our Saas-based mortgage servicing, financial technology company. This role requires a deep understanding of data modeling and query languages along with the ability to collaborate with technology teams to ensure efficient data accuracy, integrity, and security practices. As a Senior Staff member, you will apply your theoretical knowledge and functional expertise in mortgage servicing to design data models and resolve complex data-related issues.

Your day-to-day at Sagent:

Data Modeling and Design:

  • Lead efforts to translate business requirements into logical and physical database designs.
  • Develop and maintain data dictionaries, metadata repositories, and data lineage documentation to facilitate data governance and compliance.
  • Collaborate with business stakeholders to understand data requirements and ensure alignment with organizational goals and objectives.

Data Mapping and System Conversion

  • Lead support in data mapping efforts for system conversions ensuring accurate translation between legacy and target systems
  • Analyze source and target data models, identifying data gaps and defining transformation logic
  • Work closely with stakeholders to validate mappings, perform data cleansing and support user acceptance testing

Collaboration and Support:

  • Serve as a subject matter expert on database technologies, providing guidance and support to cross-functional teams.
  • Partner with software development teams to integrate database solutions into applications, ensuring optimal performance and reliability.
  • Conduct performance analysis and troubleshooting to identify and resolve database-related issues.

Continuous Improvement:

  • Stay abreast of emerging trends and best practices in database management, data modeling, and data governance.
  • Lead initiatives to modernize and enhance existing database infrastructure, tools, and processes to meet evolving business needs.
  • Drive process improvement initiatives to streamline tasks and increase operational efficiency.

Training and Knowledge Sharing:

  • Provide mentorship and training to junior staff members, fostering their professional growth and development.
  • Conduct knowledge sharing sessions and technical presentations to disseminate best practices and promote collaboration across the organization.
  • Actively participate in professional development activities, such as attending conferences and obtaining certifications, to stay current in the field.

We would love to hear from you if you have:

  • Completion of a four-year college degree in a relevant discipline with 10 years of experience in an applicable field, or completion of an advanced degree (Masters or higher) in an applicable and relevant field with 5 years of related experience, or equivalent experience. Strong theoretical knowledge and functional expertise in database administration, data modeling, and query languages.
  • Proficiency in relational database concepts, query languages (e.g., SQL), and data modeling techniques.
  • Experience analyzing data relationships, resolving issues, and collaborating with cross-functional teams.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to provide guidance and support to project teams.
  • Detail-oriented with strong problem-solving and analytical abilities.
  • Proficient in maintaining data models, entity relationship diagrams, and database documentation.
