The Digital Architecture Team (DAT) is seeking a highly experienced Software (Data) Engineering Manager II to lead our team in developing and implementing modern digital practices for engineering and operations. Our core product is data. Engineering and Operations produce a large volume and wide variety of data. It will be your responsibility to own the team that is responsible for every aspect of the lifecycle of this data.
This includes engineering data schemas, Protobuf models, automated methods of data governance, deploying and administrating databases and interfacing with customers to understand their needs and issues. Our system spans both modern cloud-based solutions and legacy Windows based infrastructure.
Our team built a highly scalable containerized gRPC microservices platform and micro-frontends web applications. Our team needs your help ensuring that data, the lifeblood of our group, is being collected, aggregated and stored for our end customers.

Please note: This range is based on our market pay structures. Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage a team of software engineers focused on building solutions for data pipelines, including data schema engineering, Protobuf models, automated data governance, and database administration
- Develop and implement technical strategies, roadmaps, and architectures for data engineering solutions, ensuring alignment with business objectives and industry trends
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including engineering, operations, and security, to ensure seamless integration and delivery of data solutions
- Foster a culture of innovation, experimentation, and continuous learning within the team, promoting best practices and industry standards in data engineering and software development
- Drive technical decision-making, ensuring alignment with industry trends, best practices, and company standards
- Manage and prioritize project portfolios, ensuring timely and within-budget delivery of data engineering solutions
- Develop and manage budgets, forecasts, and resource allocation plans to support data engineering initiatives
- Identify, assess, and mitigate technical risks, ensuring the stability and security of our data solutions
- Build and maintain relationships with external partners, vendors, and stakeholders to stay informed about industry developments and emerging technologies
- Participate in the recruitment, hiring, and onboarding process for data engineering talent, ensuring a robust and talented team.
- Develop and implement processes, metrics, and tools to measure team performance, productivity, and quality
Required Education, Experience, & Skills
Experience:
- 8+ years of experience in software development, with at least 3+ years of experience in a leadership role (e.g., engineering manager, technical lead) focused on data engineering and software development
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field
- Proven track record of successfully leading and managing high-performing teams in data engineering and software development
- Strong technical expertise in data engineering, including data pipelines, databases, data governance, and software development
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and leadership skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams
- Strong problem-solving, analytical, and decision-making skills, with the ability to navigate complex technical and business issues
- Experience with cloud-based technologies, containerization (e.g., Docker), orchestration (e.g., Kubernetes), and continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipelines
- Familiarity with industry trends, emerging technologies, and innovative data engineering and software development methodologies
- Proficiency in Python, C#, Docker, Kubernetes and Protobuf gRPC
- Experience in governing data throughout the data lifecycle from planning to retiring legacy solutions
- Expert ability in leading software projects with a focus on optimizing the data flow for the end customer.
- Solid understanding of SQLAlchemy, Postgres, PgAdmin and Postgres extensions.
Skills:
- Proficient with GitLab and CI/CD pipelines.
- Mastery in making data driven decisions with proven experience influencing others.
- Raise the bar of coding practice through detail-oriented code reviews that ensure quality, consistency and sustainability.
- Mastery in understanding software configuration management practices.
- Robust knowledge in site reliability engineering by demonstrating ability to rapidly solve, elevate and prevent production issues.
- Excellent in problem-solving skills and attention to details.

- Ability to work in an Agile/Scrum development process.

- Experience with Grafana, Prometheus, MinIO and GitLab runners
- Experience designing scalable data solutions in a Kubernetes environment.
- Skills with a wide variety of data structures, custom and commercial, high and low level.
- Understanding of production environment and experience interfacing with management
- Ability to build a team by leading and mentoring junior engineers.
