Position Purpose:

The Data Security Engineer II is responsible for supporting the design, implementation, and operational stability of enterprise data protection systems across hybrid environments. This role contributes to the effectiveness and efficiency of data security by applying cybersecurity principles, maintaining secure configurations, and enabling visibility into sensitive data usage. The engineer collaborates with cross-functional teams to ensure compliance, enhance detection capabilities, and support the organization’s data security posture.

DSPM & Sensitive Data Detection:

  • Support enhancements to Data Security Posture Management (DSPM) tools.
  • Develop systems for detecting sensitive data accessed by or used in large language models (LLMs).

Cloud Security Integration:

  • Work with platforms like AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud to implement secure configurations and controls.

Security Monitoring & Reporting:

  • Assist in correlating DLP events with SIEM/SOAR telemetry for automated response.
  • Prepare reports based on facilities metrics and data access trends.

Compliance & Governance:

  • Apply metadata tagging and sensitivity labels aligned with HIPAA, NIST, and ISO 270013.
  • Support audit readiness and policy enforcement.

Operational Support:

  • Ensure ongoing stability of server environments and assist with service request fulfillment.
  • Document standard operating procedures and support release testing.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Complies with all policies and standards.

Education/Experience:

A Bachelor's degree in a quantitative or business field (e.g., statistics, mathematics, engineering, computer science) and requires 2 – 4 years of related experience.
Or equivalent experience acquired through accomplishments of applicable knowledge, duties, scope and skill reflective of the level of this position.
Technical Skills:

Core Security Engineering Skills:

  • Cybersecurity Principles: Strong grasp of confidentiality, integrity, availability, authentication, and non-repudiation.
  • Security System Design: Ability to determine how a security system should work and how changes in conditions or operations affect outcomes.
  • Access Control Implementation: Experience developing and applying system access controls across platforms.

Data Protection & DSPM Expertise:

  • Data Security Posture Management (DSPM): Experience with tools that discover, classify, and monitor sensitive data across hybrid environments.
  • LLM Data Detection: Ability to develop systems for identifying sensitive data used in or accessed by large language models.
  • Metadata Tagging & Labeling: Familiarity with applying sensitivity labels aligned with governance standards.

Cloud Security & Infrastructure:

  • Cloud Platforms: Proficiency in AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud, as well as on-premise infrastructure.
  • Endpoint Controls: Experience with USB/CD-R restrictions and outbound monitoring.
  • SIEM/SOAR Integration & Telemetry.
  • Security Event Correlation: Ability to integrate DLP with SIEM/SOAR platforms for automated threat detection and response.
  • Incident Response Support: Experience in troubleshooting and resolving system service issues.

Soft Skills:

  • Intermediate - Seeks to acquire knowledge in area of specialty
  • Intermediate - Ability to identify basic problems and procedural irregularities, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
  • Intermediate - Ability to work independently

License/Certification:

  • CISSP Certified Information Systems Security Professional preferred
  • Proofpoint Email Fraud Defense preferred
  • Security+, Cloud+, CEH, CHFI, and Microsoft/AWS certifications are highly valued but not required

Pay Range: $30.58 - $55.09 per hour

Centene offers a comprehensive benefits package including: competitive pay, health insurance, 401K and stock purchase plans, tuition reimbursement, paid time off plus holidays, and a flexible approach to work with remote, hybrid, field or office work schedules.  Actual pay will be adjusted based on an individual's skills, experience, education, and other job-related factors permitted by law, including full-time or part-time status.  Total compensation may also include additional forms of incentives. Benefits may be subject to program eligibility.
