What We Need:  

The Data Engineer will be responsible for building Synapse’s modern data infrastructure. You will join a growing team at Synapse and will have wide leeway to build performant, observable, and maintainable data pipelines, data stacks, and the processes and frameworks around deployment, verification, and governance.  

What You Will Do:  

  • Design, implement, and maintain parts of Synapse Health's data infrastructure for the analytical needs of our operations, product development, finance, and partner teams. 
  • Collaborate with product engineering to onboard data and develop repeatable pipeline patterns using Dagster and Python to ingest data from internal production source systems and external APIs for analytical usage. 
  • Develop and maintain Azure based Cloud Infrastructure including but not limited to Storage Accounts, Kubernetes Services, Virtual Machines, Container Registries, Key Vaults and Azure Function Applications.  
  • Develop and maintain data modeling, testing, and deployment processes for Synapse Health's use of dbt. 
  • Develop and maintain data governance and access policies to minimize risk of data exposure. 
  • Lead and advocate best practices for code development, testing, CI/CD in order to ensure data availability, data quality and data usability.  

What You Have:  

At Synapse Health we’ve intentionally built a culture of kindness, collaboration and creativity, and we consider those qualities to be table stakes for any new team member. Additional requirements include:  

  • Bachelor’s degree with a major in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or other related majors, or equivalent experience.   
  • At least 5 years of demonstrated experience building and maintaining data warehouses and/or data lakes using platforms like Snowflake, Databricks, Redshift or similar. While we are data platform agnostic, most of our production data is in Snowflake/Azure. 
    At least 3 years of experience writing production ready code using Python, Java or Scala. 
  • At least 3 years of demonstrated experience designing and implementing data workflows and pipelines using tools like dbt, dlt/python, Dagster, Airflow, or similar open-source tooling like dbt core, prefect, sqlmesh, sling, etc. 
  • Experience building systems that meet the needs of Data Scientists/Data Analysts who use SQL and code as well as non-technical end users who interact with data using tools like Sigma, Looker, Amplitude, or similar.   
  • Experience mentoring and coaching engineers through the senior level.   
  • Nice to have: Working knowledge of data engineering best practices for privacy and security compliance with PII/PHI: HIPAA, GDPR, CCPA or similar regulatory frameworks.   
  • Nice to have: Experience in healthcare, especially Value-Based Care businesses and understanding of payor reporting requirements.
