Overview of Role

A client of 66degrees’ is seeking a Data Engineer to engage on a 6 months remote contract with the potential to extend. Interested candidates should have the following required skills and the ability to work independently as well as within a team environment. 

Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, and maintain scalable and efficient data pipelines using Google Cloud Platform (GCP) services, specifically BigQuery, Cloud Composer (Apache Airflow), and Cloud Run.
  • Implement and manage data transformation logic using Dataform (or dbt) to ensure data quality, consistency, and reusability.
  • Lead and execute the migration of existing data solutions from SQL Server to GCP, including schema conversion, data transfer, and validation.
  • Develop, test, and deploy data ingestion and processing scripts using Python.
  • Manage and optimize data storage solutions in Google Cloud Storage (GCS), ensuring data accessibility and cost-effectiveness.
  • Monitor data pipeline performance, troubleshoot issues, and implement solutions for data integrity and reliability using Google Cloud Logging and other monitoring tools.
  • Collaborate with data scientists, analysts, and other engineering teams to understand data requirements and deliver appropriate data solutions.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related quantitative field or equivalent practical experience.
  • Proven experience (5+ years) as a Data Engineer or in a similar role.
  • Strong expertise in Google Cloud Platform (GCP) data services, including: BigQuery,Cloud Composer (Apache Airflow), Cloud Run,Google Cloud Storage (GCS),Google Cloud Logging
  • Proficiency in SQL Server, including database administration, T-SQL, and performance tuning.
  • Demonstrable experience with SQL Server migrations to cloud-based data warehouses.
  • Strong programming skills in Python for data manipulation, scripting, and API interactions.
  • Experience with data transformation tools like Dataform or dbt (data build tool).
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication and collaboration abilities.
