Since we opened our doors in 2009, the world of commerce has evolved immensely, and so has Square. After enabling anyone to take payments and never miss a sale, we saw sellers stymied by disparate, outmoded products and tools that wouldn't work together.
So we expanded into software and started building integrated, omnichannel solutions - to help sellers sell online, manage inventory, offer buy now, pay later functionality, book appointments, engage loyal buyers, and hire and pay staff. Across it all, we've embedded financial services tools at the point of sale, so merchants can access a business loan and manage their cash flow in one place. Afterpay furthers our goal to provide omnichannel tools that unlock meaningful value and growth, enabling sellers to capture the next generation shopper, increase order sizes, and compete at a larger scale.
Today, we are a partner to sellers of all sizes - large, enterprise-scale businesses with complex operations, sellers just starting, as well as merchants who began selling with Square and have grown larger over time. As our sellers grow, so do our solutions. There is a massive opportunity in front of us. We're building a significant, meaningful, and lasting business, and we are helping sellers worldwide do the same.
The Role
We are seeking a highly motivated Credit Risk Analyst to join the Square team to mitigate credit risk of small businesses. Working in a new team at Square, you will have in-depth understanding of the principles of portfolio and account level credit risk management, and will analyse data using tools - to distinguish risky accounts from opportunities across many different types of businesses. You will find creative ways to manage risk while improving customer experience, and will become a Square product expert who has the opportunity to affect the product roadmap and user experience. The ideal candidate loves credit, has a strong attention to detail, and enjoys finding creative ways to manage risk while improving the customer experience. In this role you will report to the International Lending Operations Supervisor, and can be based anywhere in Australia.
You Will
  • Perform credit assessment and financial statement analysis on business loan applications for new and existing customers.
  • Monitor business loan accounts and perform recovery tasks where necessary
  • Communicate with customers by email, including having investigative conversations
  • Maintain accurate up-to-date process documentation and reporting
  • Work with Risk, Legal, and Compliance to monitor policies and reduce loss
  • Collaborate closely with Sales and Account Managers to support acquisition and provide ongoing support to existing customers.
  • Surface opportunities to improve tools, workflow and customer experience

You Have
  • 2+ years experience working at a financial institution or payments provider
  • A detective-like mentality with desire to help customers
  • A creative and eager mindset, and enjoy finding solutions
  • Flexibility to adapt and able to manage multiple workflows while working independently
  • Enjoys working in fast-paced and rapidly changing environment
  • Passion for Square's mission of economic empowerment

Optional / Nice to have
  • Japanese Language skills (Huge Plus)
  • Experience within commercial lending, credit operations, or credit card services
  • Experience with financial analysis including reviewing financial statements
