Location

This position will be based in Charlotte, NC (remote locations will be considered for exceptional candidates).


Summary of Role 

This is an exciting opportunity to be a key member of a small, high-performing fast-paced team and work directly with the executive team on corporate development strategy, M&A growth opportunities and investments.  This person will report to the VP, Corporate Development and become an internal expert on developments in the clean energy space by actively engaging with the relevant industry and start-up ecosystems, investment community and financial advisors. They will also be responsible for directing pre-acquisition diligence, deal execution and post-acquisition integration. 


The ideal candidate will develop market insights through strong internal and external relationships to identify attractive M&A targets and other opportunities. Evaluation of opportunities will be based on well-grounded investment criteria in partnership with internal stakeholders. The corporate development function will develop the business case and drive internal alignment on strategic fit and post-deal planning.


We are looking for a candidate with proven experience in M&A, research and analysis, strategic problem-solving and executive decision-making support.



Responsibilities 

  • Work with senior executives and other internal partners to continuously refine the major strategic themes that guide Palmetto’s M&A strategy
  • Support the VP of Corporate Development as the thought-leader within the organization, particularly with respect to M&A and the external landscape of competitors and potential targets
  • Lead the development of recommendations to senior executives and guide the alignment process for proposed corporate development projects
  • Drive proactive deal sourcing, including fostering strong relationships with external and internal stakeholders
  • Own a tight and rigorous target evaluation process with robust strategic rationale, clear decision criteria, and in-depth analysis
  • Shepherd the deal execution process end to end, including due diligence, valuation and structure, negotiation, approvals and post-merger integration
  • Build and own detailed, complex financial and operating models to evaluate business cases and deal economics
  • Develop tracking and analytics to ensure strategic deal drivers are maintained through deal execution and post-merger integration
  • Lead the strategic integration planning, both internally among cross functional groups and externally with management teams of target companies.  Drive ongoing value extraction activities 
  • Support the finance organization broadly - assist with select Investor Relations, Treasury, and FP&A tasks, including financial analysis, quarterly earnings preparation, and investor communications

Qualifications


  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • 3+ years of corporate development / investment banking / M&A / private equity / VC experience
  • Experience with end-to-end M&A transactions
  • Experience sourcing and evaluating inorganic growth opportunities, including identifying key strategic themes, and driving the target evaluation process
  • Exceptional financial modeling and valuation skills, with deep knowledge of accounting and corporate finance principles
  • Strong project management skills and proven ability to lead cross-functional teams
  • Ability to develop strong relationships with internal stakeholders as well as external CEO’s/Founders and build presence across functional teams
  • Extremely motivated leader with excellent communication skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, strong business acumen, attention to detail, and strategic and creative thinking
  • Resilient self-starter who is comfortable pivoting often and learning continuously
