Job Summary

May Mobility is looking for a Corporate Counsel to join and support our Legal team and serve as a trusted business partner across the organization. This is a high-impact, hands-on role for a versatile attorney who thrives in a fast-paced, growth-stage environment. You will negotiate and manage supplier and commercial agreements, help build and maintain compliance programs, review press releases and marketing blogs, and provide practical legal guidance on a range of issues that arise as we scale our autonomous vehicle operations worldwide.

The ideal candidate brings subject matter expertise in one or more of the following areas: regulatory affairs, safety and product liability, data privacy, intellectual property including patents, or employment law. You will work cross-functionally with engineering, operations, finance, and business development teams and will have a direct hand in shaping the legal infrastructure of a company at the forefront of the autonomous mobility revolution.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Draft, review, and negotiate a range of commercial and supplier agreements, including hardware supply, software licensing, services, joint development, and partnership agreements, while developing and maintaining playbooks, templates, and negotiation guidelines for use across the legal team
  • Design, implement, and maintain compliance programs and policies covering areas such as data privacy, safety, regulatory obligations, and corporate governance
  • Provide day-to-day legal counsel to cross-functional teams including engineering, operations, business development, government affairs, marketing, and human resources
  • Advise on regulatory matters related to autonomous vehicle testing, deployment, and commercialization at the federal, state, and local levels
  • Support the management of outside counsel and coordinate with external advisors on specialized matters including litigation, IP, and regulatory filings
  • Monitor and analyze evolving laws and regulations affecting autonomous vehicles, transportation, data privacy, and employment, and summarize  business implications to leadership
  • Develop and deliver training programs on legal compliance, contracting best practices, and risk management for business teams
  • Assist with corporate transactions, equity matters, and board-related activities as needed

Qualifications and Experience

Candidates most successful in this role typically hold the following qualifications or comparable knowledge or experience:

  • J.D. from an accredited law school and active membership in good standing with at least one U.S. state bar
  • 5–8 years of legal experience, including a combination of law firm and in-house counsel experience (experience at a technology, automotive, or mobility company is strongly preferred)
  • Demonstrated experience drafting, reviewing, and negotiating complex commercial and supplier agreements
  • Experience developing or managing compliance programs, policies, or internal controls
  • Substantive expertise in at least one of the following: regulatory affairs, safety/product liability, data privacy (e.g., CCPA, CPRA, APPI, GDPR), or employment law
  • Strong business judgment with the ability to balance legal risk against operational objectives in a fast-moving environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to distill complex legal concepts for non-legal audiences

Preferred 

  • Experience in the autonomous vehicle, automotive, robotics, or advanced transportation technology sector
  • Familiarity with NHTSA regulations, FMVSS standards, state AV legislation, or other transportation safety frameworks
  • Experience advising on data privacy matters in the context of connected or autonomous vehicles, including geolocation data, telematics, and rider data
  • Background in government affairs, public policy, or working with regulatory agencies (DOT, NHTSA, state DMVs)
  • Experience supporting companies through high-growth stages, including Series C/D and beyond
  • Comfort operating as a generalist across multiple legal disciplines while building institutional knowledge in a lean legal team
  • CIPP/US, CIPP/E, or other privacy certification

Travel Required?  Minimal: 1%-10%
