Role

Our in-house Legal Department is looking to hire a Corporate Counsel to work in our New York office.

Responsibilities

  • Negotiate and draft commercial agreements including customer and vendor agreements.
  • Provide practical legal and strategic advice on a range of US legal matters including employment, intellectual property, media, M&A, privacy, and dispute resolution.
  • Build relationships with the Commercial team and other key stakeholders across the organisation.
  • Continuously learn about our business, services and technology. Develop and maintain expertise in current legal issues relevant to our business, such as those relating to artificial intelligence.
  • Drive and contribute to legal projects, including improving our legal operations as we scale.

Requirements

  • J.D. with a strong academic record
  • New York Bar admission or ability to waive in
  • 2+ years’ experience at a major law firm and/or in-house
  • Experience in reviewing and negotiating SaaS and/or data licensing contracts.
  • Keen commercial awareness and ability to provide actionable advice.
  • Excellent people skills with an ability to maintain strong working relationships.
  • Sound and practical judgment in managing legal risks.
  • The ability to work independently and as a team player in a fast-paced environment.
  • Confident and clear communicator.

Preferred

  • In-house experience.
  • Experience related to the financial services, media, and/or technology sectors.
  • Experience or interest in using technology to improve legal operations.

At Octus, we consider a range of factors in connection with compensation decisions, including experience, skills, location, and our business needs and limitations. As a result, compensation may vary within and across similar roles and positions. Please note that the salary range information below is a good faith estimate for this position and actual compensation for any individual may fall outside this range if warranted by the circumstances applicable to that individual. If we identify a role that would be suitable for a broader range of skills and experience such that we would consider hiring at multiple levels then the range listed below may reflect that breadth.

The base salary range estimate for this position is $160,000 - $180,000

The actual compensation will be at Octus’s sole discretion and will be determined by the aforementioned and other relevant factors.
