About Muddy Mat
Muddy Mat is the market leading pet friendly home products brand, best known for our ultra absorbent chenille door mats designed to trap mud, water, and dirt from pet paws and shoes. We sell across our own website, Amazon, Walmart.com, TikTok Shop, Chewy, and other digital channels. With over 50,000 five star reviews and a proven track record as a 9 figure direct to consumer brand, Muddy Mat has built massive product market fit across multiple digital channels. We move fast, we build for the long term, and we are now building the financial infrastructure to match our scale.
The Mission
This is not a "manage clean books" role. We are in the middle of a meaningful financial infrastructure upgrade — transitioning from cash basis to accrual accounting, migrating from QuickBooks Online to NetSuite, and preparing for a formal audit with a national CPA firm (BDO). We need someone who has done this before, who does not flinch at a cleanup project, and who can own the process end to end.
If you have inherited messy books and left them clean — this role was written for you.
What You'll Own
  • Lead and execute our transition from cash basis to accrual accounting, including restating historical financials and rebuilding the chart of accounts.
  • Own the migration from QuickBooks Online to NetSuite, partnering with our external NetSuite implementation consultant to ensure the system is configured correctly from day one.
  • Lead pre audit book cleanup in direct coordination with BDO, our external audit firm.
  • Own and manage the formal audit process from start to finish.
  • Own month end and year end close, ensuring accurate and timely financial statements.
  • Manage all aspects of the general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll.
  • Build and maintain a strong internal controls environment to safeguard company assets.
  • Prepare and present monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports to the CEO and leadership team.
  • Identify and implement process improvements as we build a finance function that can scale.

What We're Looking For
Non negotiable:
  • Demonstrated experience transitioning a company from cash basis to accrual accounting — you have done this, recently, and can speak to it specifically.
  • Hands on experience with NetSuite — migration or implementation experience strongly preferred.
  • Experience working directly with an external audit firm on audit preparation and execution.
  • 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 2 years in a Controller or senior accounting role.
  • CPA designation (or local equivalent) strongly preferred.
  • Deep knowledge of US GAAP.
Strong preference — automatic interview:
  • Prior experience at a Big 4 firm (Deloitte, PwC, Ernst & Young, or KPMG) in audit or tax — Philippines, Latin America, or Eastern Europe specifically.
  • Experience in e commerce, DTC, or consumer products — multi channel revenue recognition is a plus.
  • Prior experience migrating from QuickBooks Online to an ERP system.
The person, not just the resume:
  • You are a builder, not a maintainer. You are energized by a blank whiteboard, not intimidated by it.
  • You communicate clearly with non finance stakeholders — you translate numbers into decisions, not just reports.
  • You are accountable. When something is wrong, you say so and fix it. You do not bury problems.

Why Muddy Mat
  • Real ownership. You will be the architect of our finance function — this is not a support role.
  • High visibility. Direct access to the CEO and leadership. Your work shapes decisions at the top.
  • Room to build. As we scale, you build the team under you.
  • Serious problem to solve. We are a 9 figure brand doing meaningful infrastructure work — the kind of challenge that sharpens careers.
