Our client is seeking an experienced and hands-on Controller to lead the company’s accounting and financial operations. This role will oversee day-to-day accounting functions, ensure financial accuracy, and provide strategic financial insight to support business growth. The ideal candidate brings strong accounting leadership experience, preferably within the construction or contracting industry, and is comfortable operating in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities
- Accounting & Financial Management
- -Oversee all general accounting functions including general ledger, reconciliations, and month-end close
- -Ensure accuracy and integrity of financial records and reporting
- -Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
- -Manage cash flow, budgeting, and financial forecasting
- -Maintain internal controls and support continuous process improvement
- Billing & AR & AP Oversight
- -Oversee invoicing processes, ensuring accuracy and timeliness
- -Monitor accounts receivable and support collections efforts
- -Supervise accounts payable processes, including vendor payments and expense management
- -Ensure alignment between contracts, billing, and financial records
- Payroll & HR Support
- -Oversee payroll processing, ensuring accuracy and compliance
- -Support basic HR functions such as employee records, onboarding coordination, and benefits administration
- -Ensure compliance with employment regulations and company policies
- Reporting & Compliance
- -Produce financial reports for leadership and ownership
- -Ensure compliance with accounting standards and regulatory requirements
- -Coordinate with external accountants on year-end close and audits
- -Maintain proper documentation and audit readiness
- Leadership & Collaboration
- -Partner with leadership to provide financial insights and recommendations
- -Collaborate with operations and field teams to ensure financial alignment
- -Serve as a key point of contact for internal financial inquiries
Qualifications
5+ years of accounting experience, with at least 2+ years in a leadership or senior-level role
Prior experience in construction, contracting, or a related industry strongly preferred
Strong understanding of financial reporting, general ledger accounting, and internal controls
Experience with accounting software and advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel
Familiarity with construction accounting systems (e.g., Buildops, Sage, Procore) is a plus
Experience with payroll processing and basic HR functions preferred
Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills
Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
