JOB DESCRIPTION
Empower is seeking an experienced Consumer Compliance Testing Lead to drive execution of our enterprise-wide monitoring and testing plan. We’re looking for someone who knows the ins and outs of consumer protection regulations and how they apply to the deposit, early wage access, and consumer lending spaces. Our ideal candidate will bring creativity, thoughtfulness, and a high degree of organization and diligence to the role. We’re hiring strategic thinkers, not box checkers - compliance professionals who are excited to dive into our products, learn our business, and be strong ambassadors for the Compliance team.
Empower is a remote-first company. We drive connectivity through regular company offsites. Travel for company offsites is expected at a minimum 2 times a year.
RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Execute risk-based regulatory compliance testing and evaluate control design and effectiveness

  • Develop, implement, and own compliance risk monitoring dashboards

  • Review policies, procedures, training materials, and various processes against regulatory requirements and industry best practices

  • Prepare well-written, concise, and actionable testing reports and distill key findings and action items into management and board reporting

  • Assist with the company’s compliance risk assessment process

  • Support company and team-wide initiatives to further mature the Compliance program

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 5+ years of regulatory compliance experience, preferably in consumer lending

  • Experience conducting compliance monitoring and testing, including preparing testing scripts and workbooks, pulling system data, and drafting concise, impactful reports

  • Demonstrable expertise in consumer protection regulations, including ECOA, TILA, FCRA, SCRA, MLA, GLBA, FDCPA, UDAAP, among others

  • Ability to communicate complex regulatory concepts clearly and concisely to non-compliance individuals

  • Aptitude and interest for leveraging new technologies and quickly adapting to new tools and systems

  • SQL experience is a plus

  • Bachelor’s degree required

At Empower, we hire for people that push themselves to understand others and seek out ways to challenge their personal assumptions. Our hope is that by fostering such an environment, we strengthen our business and relationships by putting people first. We are committed to building a diverse, inclusive, and equitable workspace where everyone (regardless of age, education, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, or any personal characteristics) feels like they belong. Even if your experience doesn’t exactly match up to our job description, you should feel empowered to apply regardless!
