Great American’s Excess Liability Division offers significant capacity of up to $20 million for both Lead Umbrella and Excess Liability placements. This protection is made available to companies varying in size from single location light hazard risks to a wide variety of more difficult to place manufacturer and processor risks. We specialize in offering large limits of liability to protect our clients’ corporate assets from catastrophic loss. We can tailor coverages to meet specific individual exposures and provide a customized Excess program.

Our Excess Liability Division is looking for a Claims Technical Director to join their team. This individual will work in one of our offices or be fully remote depending on where the successful applicant is located.

Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities

  • Manages a book of Umbrella and Excess Liability claims for a significant size or complex product(s).  Investigates and maintains claims:
    • Reviews and evaluates coverage and/or liability.
    • Secures necessary information (i.e., reports, policies, appraisals, releases, statements, records, or other documents) in the investigation of claims.
  • Works toward the resolution of claims files, and attends arbitrations, mediations, depositions, or trials as necessary.
  • May affect settlements/reserves within prescribed limits and submit recommendations to supervisor on cases exceeding personal authority.
  • Conveys highly complex information (coverage, decisions, outcomes, negotiations, etc.) to all appropriate parties maintaining professional demeanor in all situations.
  • Ensures that claims payments are issued in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Ensures compliance of claims handling pursuant to all state, legal, statutory, and regulatory bodies to comply with all company procedures and requirements.
  • Serves as the technical expert on a product(s).
  • Evaluates and makes recommendations to executive management on internal and external issues of strategic importance to a product(s).
  • Accountable for achieving performance targets/business results.
  • Provides technical advice, assistance, and training to lower level positions, management and other functional areas.
  • Interacts with underwriting and marketing regarding claims trend issues.
  • May have responsibility for performance and coaching of staff and may have a participatory role in decisions regarding talent selection, development, and performance management for direct reports.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

Education: Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience.

Field of Study: Liberal Arts, Business or a related discipline.

Experience: 10 to 12 years of related experience.

Salary Range:

$107,000.00 -$146,000.00

Compensation varies by role, position level, and location. Individual pay is influenced by skills, education, training, certifications, experience, and the role's scope and complexity, along with business needs.
