OVERVIEW: The Capital Project & Tooling Engineer leads the strategic procurement, technical specification, and end-to-end installation of new manufacturing equipment, large-scale tooling systems, and high-cost capital improvement projects. This full-time role is based in Mansfield, Ohio, working closely with, and reporting to, the Director of Operations.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES:  

• Lead end-to-end tooling procurement cycles, specialized work holding systems, gauges, and jigs   sourcing. 
• Drive sourcing strategies, technical specifications, and ROI justifications for high-cost capital equipment purchases. 
• Direct field installation sequences, external rigging crews, foundation contractors, and utility modifications for heavy machinery. 
• Coordinate complex vendor evaluation matrices, contract performance guarantees, and factory acceptance testing protocols. 
• Scope facility modernization projects, building infrastructure upgrades, and civil foundation preparation phases. 
• Track baseline asset reliability, analyze initial failure data, and establish preventive maintenance paths with suppliers. 
• Maintain asset records, engineering tooling documentation, and structural revision controls. 
• Deliver technical operational training and establish spare parts inventories for newly installed equipment. 

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS & COMPETENCIES 

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Electrical, or Industrial Engineering. 
• Minimum 5 years of experience in manufacturing engineering, tooling procurement, and high-cost capital projects. 
• Proven track record managing industrial machinery installations, third-party riggers, and civil contractors. 
• Extensive experience drafting technical RFPs and negotiating commercial equipment vendor purchase agreements. 
• Technical literacy with proficiency in CAD software, Microsoft Office 365, project management, and ERP/CMMS systems. 
• Capital project experience within heavy rotating equipment, electric motors, generators, or stamping die environments preferred. 
• Analytical thinking, project management, and Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA) capability. 
• Certified Reliability Engineer (CRE) or Certified Maintenance & Reliability Professional (CMRP) is a plus. 

WORKING CONDITIONS AND WORK HOURS 

• Daily minimum of 8 hours. Weekly 40 hour minimum. 
• This position operates in both a professional office environment and a heavy industrial manufacturing plant floor. 
• Must be willing to work flexible hours and overtime, and occasional weekends, holidays, and nights during equipment installation phases. 
• Travel may be required (likely 25%) for vendor reviews and factory testing. Must be able to travel throughout the United States and abroad. Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a valid passport and US-issued driver’s license.

• is regularly required to talk, hear, read, and write/type 
• is frequently required to stand, sit, walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, or crouch 
• is occasionally required to sit, climb, and/or balance 
• must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds unrestricted 
• must be able to exhibit specific vision abilities required by this job which include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus
