The Opportunity

As a dedicated Business Risk and Controls Advisor, you will enhance risk awareness and the effectiveness of risk and compliance programs within the business. The position involves collaboration with various departments, including Compliance and Risk Management, Business Operations, IT, Audit Services, and Regulators, to support initiatives. You will ensure adherence to the established risk framework, supervise business controls, manage risk assessment data, and uses critical thinking to identify data-driven insights related to the first line of defense. The goal is to minimize risk exposures and strengthen the overall control environment.

We offer a flexible work environment that requires an individual to be in the office 4 days per week. This position can be based in one of the following locations: San Antonio, TX, Plano, TX, Phoenix, AZ, Colorado Springs, CO, Charlotte, NC, or Tampa, FL.

Relocation assistance is not available for this position.

What you'll do:

  • Direct and oversee multiple initiatives in support of risk and/or regulatory compliance related initiatives including but not limited to oversight of procedures/process, accurate regulatory reporting and filing, document governance, risk control self-assessments, procedure governance, control design, new product controls, Company and Staff Agencies Third Party Governance, or quality governance.

  • Apply a comprehensive understanding of risk and regulatory compliance to includes business strategies and solutions.

  • Responsible for first line of defense data analysis, report preparation and trend analysis, utilizing business intelligence tools.

  • Design solutions for unanswered business questions and anticipates future business needs.

  • Direct, organize and oversee action plans designed to enhance governance practices in alignment with risk and compliance frameworks.

  • Influence and develop innovative solutions to mitigate risk and prevent risk exposures which result in significant business impacts.

  • Manage the most complex projects involving cross-functional areas within the first line of defense.

  • Define and outline new approaches to problem resolution and leads project team from concept through implementation.

  • Counsel senior management on the status of their control environment related to risk identification and control weaknesses.

  • Identify critical areas to monitor and escalate issues and findings to appropriate partners.

  • Serve as a primary resource to cross functional team members and advises on risk mitigation opportunities.

  • Stay informed of changes to the regulatory environment to ensure proper compliance with processes and requirements are followed.

  • Ensure risks associated with business activities are effectively identified, measured, monitored, and controlled in accordance with risk and compliance policies and procedures. ​

What you have:

  • Bachelor’s degree: OR 4 years of related experience (in addition to the minimum years of experience required) may be substituted in lieu of degree.

  • Minimum 8 years' experience supporting risk-related, compliance related, or business control design activities; OR 8 years' experience in a relevant quantitative field; OR Advanced degree or designation in a risk management or quantitative field, and 6 years' experience supporting risk-related, and/or compliance-related, or business control design activities; OR PhD in a risk management or quantitative field, and 4 years' experience supporting risk-related, and/or compliance-related, or business control design activities. ​

What sets you apart:

  • Experience in the financial services industry (insurance, banking, investments).

  • Experience with process and control assessment, design, and documentation.

  • Experience with Risk & Compliance Programs (RCSA, PRCI, Risk Inventory, Risk Assessment).

  • Experience with internal and/or external audit.

  • Professional certification or working towards a certification (e.g., CPA, CIA, etc.).

Compensation range: The salary range for this position is: $127,310.00 - $243,340.00.

Compensation: USAA has an effective process for assessing market data and establishing ranges to ensure we remain competitive. You are paid within the salary range based on your experience and market data of the position. The actual salary for this role may vary by location.

 

Employees may be eligible for pay incentives based on overall corporate and individual performance and at the discretion of the USAA Board of Directors.
