D. E. Shaw Research (DESRES) seeks exceptionally accomplished individuals to join our New York City–based group as Business Operations Associates. We’re looking for articulate, intellectually rigorous, and self-motivated critical thinkers who thrive in dynamic environments and excel at independent work, problem-solving, and multitasking. Ideal candidates will have one to five years of relevant work experience, outstanding communication and leadership skills, exceptional organizational and analytical abilities, strong quantitative instincts, and meticulous attention to detail.

In this role, individuals may help coordinate a range of scientific, engineering, operational, and commercial initiatives; interface with internal teams and external partners; and contribute to planning efforts across the organization. Candidates should bring at least some familiarity with vendor relationships, experience working with legal teams to negotiate contracts, and the ability to liaise effectively with internal stakeholders across diverse functional areas.

DESRES, based in New York City, develops and uses advanced computational technologies to understand the behavior of biologically and pharmaceutically significant molecules at an atomic level of detail, and to design precisely targeted, highly selective drugs for the treatment of various diseases.  Among its core technologies is Anton, a proprietary special-purpose supercomputer that DESRES designed and constructed to vastly accelerate the process of molecular dynamics simulation.  DESRES uses Anton machines and high-speed commodity hardware, together with machine learning methods and other computational techniques, in both internal and collaborative drug discovery programs.

We are looking to add innovative contributors who share our commitment to fostering a stimulating, positive, and collaborative work environment.
