🐶 Our mission

Every pet deserves the care they need. Inflation and economic pressures have made vet bills harder to afford – and we’re fixing that, one clinic at a time.

🚀 The opportunity

Snout is one of the fastest growing wellness plan providers in the veterinary space, trusted by clinics across the U.S. We’re a small but mighty startup team of <30 employees. We’re on the lookout for Business Development Representatives (BDRs) based in the Metro Detroit area to help us build our outbound pipeline, set the standard for excellence in our business development function and scale it from the ground up. This role is a full-time contract-to-hire position.

💻 The role

As a Business Development Representative based in our Troy, Michigan office, you'll be a pipeline generation machine and a key contributor to building our outbound sales engine. This role is great for someone who has 1 year of professional work experience and who's willing to learn the art of prospecting since you'll figure out how to break into vet clinics, create a book of accounts and crush your individual targets. You’ll spend about half your day on the phone with clinics, the rest preparing, following up, and improving how we approach them.

Your impact will be immediate and significant. Beyond hitting aggressive pipeline targets, you'll test new prospecting strategies, refine our messaging, and provide feedback that shapes our go-to-market approach. You'll work closely with our account executives to ensure smooth handoffs and partner with marketing to optimize our outbound campaigns. As we grow and you master your role, you'll have opportunities to help build our playbooks.

If you're interested in making your first foray into business development and sales — we want to hear from you!

Snout is committed to building a diverse and inclusive team. We know that great candidates may not check every box — and that’s okay. If you're excited about this role and our mission, we encourage you to apply if you meet at least 75% of “what we’re looking for” including the first bullet point. If you need any accommodations during the application or interview process, please let us know — we’re happy to support you.

🛠 What you’ll do

  • Spend about half your day on the phone with clinics, the rest preparing, following up, and improving how we approach them
  • Break and prospect into high-value target accounts (veterinary practice owners and decision-makers) using multi-channel outreach across email, phone, LinkedIn and in-person meetings
  • Consistently generate qualified opportunities and book demos that meet or exceed monthly pipeline targets
  • Conduct discovery calls to understand clinic needs and determine fit before passing to Account Executives/Managers
  • Design, test, and optimize prospecting sequences and messaging to maximize conversion rates at every stage
  • Collaborate with marketing to refine ideal customer profiles, provide campaign feedback, and improve content effectiveness

💡What we're looking for

  • Completion of a 2-4 year post-secondary degree and program
  • 1+ years of professional work experience
  • Excellent written with the ability to personalize outreach at scale
  • Clear communicator with the ability to speak without posturing
  • Confidence and strong presentation skills without being "salesy" or overly aggressive
  • Self-starter who thrives with autonomy and can manage a complex pipeline without constant oversight
  • Fearlessness, curiosity and coachability — you're always looking to improve your craft and learn from wins and losses
  • A track record of success and competitive spirit — you've played competitive sports or have some accolades under your belt

🌟 What will make you stand out

  • Business development or inside sales experience
  • Proven ability to prospect into SMB or mid-market accounts and navigate to decision-makers:
    • Sold into healthcare SMBs (think dental, med spa, PT, vet, etc)
    • Full-cycle recruitment
    • Customer support reps at healthcare SaaS
    • Fundraising experience
  • Familiarity with sales technology and prospecting tools (Salesforce, Outreach, Apollo, LinkedIn Sales Navigator, etc.)

💖 Why you should join Snout

  • Fast growing, venture capital backed technology company focused on improving access to veterinary care
  • Ability to have a meaningful impact from Day 1, where your voice and opinion matters
  • Unlimited potential to grow in your career, learn and expand your skillsets
  • Collaborative, flexible, and friendly culture

❌ Why this role might not be a fit for you

  • A fast-moving, startup culture feels overwhelming to you and you aren't comfortable with ambiguity and figuring things out as you go
  • You're uncomfortable with high-volume prospecting and prefer inbound leads only
  • You need detailed scripts and constant direction rather than autonomy to experiment and iterate
  • You're not open to feedback or coaching on your approach
  • You're satisfied with hitting 80% of quota rather than consistently exceeding targets past 100%
  • You aren't okay starting off on an hourly contract
  • You’re not motivated by making commission

💸 Compensation

  • $3 750 monthly + commission plan
  • Upon successful conversion to a full-time employee:
    • $45 000 base salary / $90 000 OTE
    • Commission plan (~$45 000 in expected, uncapped commission)

⚕️Benefits

  • Upon successful conversion to a full-time employee:
    • Day 1 medical/dental/vision benefits
    • Flexible time off + 11 Snout calendar holidays
    • Paid parental leave
