Overview of the role:
Join us at PolicyMe! We're modernizing insurance and we'd like your help. The Canadian insurance landscape has remained largely unchanged for decades - and we’re here to change that. We're a remote-first, Toronto-based startup with big ambitions and even bigger momentum.
As a Business Development Representative, you’ll be on the frontlines of our growth engine, engaging with prospective clients in the early stages of their journey with PolicyMe. This isn’t your standard BDR role - you’ll be learning how to sell not just insurance, but a tech-forward, customer-centric experience that’s redefining the industry.
Your focus will be on outbound prospecting, qualifying inbound leads, booking meetings, and helping potential clients get to the right place faster. This role is ideal for someone hungry to build, eager to eventually grow into a licensed advisor, and ready to master both insurance and SaaS-style sales skills.
Build & Shape This Role:
This is a brand-new role, and you’ll have the rare opportunity to help shape our BDR function from day one. We're actively building a sales system that aligns the right talent with the right customer moments - and we believe BDRs play a key role in driving smarter, faster, and more effective sales engagement.
You’ll have the chance to experiment, refine sequences, and influence everything from prospecting tactics to pipeline strategies. Your input will be critical to understanding where human connection creates the most value in our sales funnel - and how we scale that. If you love being part of a team that’s building something from the ground up, this is your moment.
What you'll be doing:
- Own the top-of-funnel by identifying and engaging potential clients through outbound calls, emails, and creative prospecting strategies.
- Reactivate cold leads and reach out to high-potential prospects who haven’t engaged with us yet.
- Qualify and convert inbound leads by understanding their needs and booking meetings for the advisor team.
- Work in close collaboration with Advisors to optimize hand-offs and conversions post-meeting.
- Maintain accurate records in HubSpot, track pipeline health, and report on outreach and conversion metrics.
- Analyze lead data, run tests on outreach sequences, and continuously improve performance.
- Share insights with Sales and Marketing to help refine customer targeting and messaging.
- Help define what “great” looks like in the BDR role - then strive to exceed it.
- Position yourself for internal growth into a licensed advisor role by building a strong foundation in process, outreach, and customer experience.
What we are looking for:
- 1–3 years of experience in outbound sales, business development, or customer-facing roles (fintech, telco/wireless, or early-stage SaaS experience is great as well!)
- A builder mentality: you don’t just follow scripts - you test, tweak, and improve them.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to build trust quickly.
- High-energy and performance-driven, with experience managing a pipeline and hitting activity metrics.
- Confident making 100+ calls/day, iterating fast, and staying resilient in the face of “no.”
- Comfort working in a fast-moving, high-growth environment with limited structure.
- Familiarity with HubSpot or similar CRM tools is a bonus.
- Bonus points if you’re a former athlete or love competitive environments with a team-first mindset.
Reports to: Customer Success Manager
Why join us:
- Generous PTO – 20 vacation days
- Access to a comprehensive benefits plan
- A remote-first team with company-paid, in-person socials and the option to work from our Toronto-based office
- Resources to help your professional development, including an L&D budget, performance reviews twice a year, and ongoing feedback
- Clear growth track to a licensed advisor role, with mentorship and coaching every step of the way
- Work with an empathetic, high-performing team in a flexible, results-oriented environment
