Alberta Blue Cross® is an Alberta based organization dedicated to delivering exceptional customer experience and community leadership. We’re committed to providing the best health coverage to over 1.8 million members and take an active role in promoting wellness. We believe in what we do—and place trust in our employees to deliver our vision.

Working at Alberta Blue Cross® means having a career where you’ll be recognized for your contributions. We value diversity, encourage our team members to maintain a healthy work-life balance and provide opportunities for career growth.

OVERVIEW:

This strategic business development role is focused on expanding market share within the Individual Products Division by developing and executing a multi-channel growth strategy. Acting as a strategic catalyst, this role identifies and builds partnerships that expand access to new markets and enhance our personal benefits, travel, and wellness portfolio. By developing strong business relationships, leveraging industry insights, and accessing large associations, affinity groups, and high-yield alliances, this role supports growth within our existing client base while creating new market opportunities aligned with our brand and corporate mission.

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

Strategic Partnership & Alliance Development

  • Create a pipeline of potential affinity groups where members could benefit from ABC services.

  • Architect B2B2C ecosystems to develop alliances with organizations that would enable access to non-traditional markets.

  • Develop and execute a strategy, in concert with marketing, to leverage potential co-branded distribution resulting in white label/co-branded digital mediums targeting specific affinity audiences.

Group To Individual Retiree Program Optimization

  • Partner with internal stakeholders to build a seamless, systematic process that captures and converts retiring employees from existing client contracts.

  • Deliver Executive-Level Corporate Pitches: Educate and pitch existing B2B group clients on implementing our individual retiree products as a value-add, zero-cost corporate offboarding and severance benefit for their departing workforces.

  • Deploy Pre-Retirement Engagement Strategies: Work with IP team members and marketing to implement educational retirement webinars and digital engagement campaigns, securing direct trust with employees before their group coverage officially terminates.

Channel Diversification

  • Identify Strategic Growth Opportunities: Source, evaluate, and pursue potential business partnerships, joint ventures, or niche portfolio acquisitions that immediately strengthen and expand Alberta Blue Cross's individual health, dental, and life services in concert with Marketing.

  • Expand Existing Travel Insurance Channel Capabilities: Identify strategic point-of-sale partnerships within the travel and hospitality sectors to expand the travel portfolio beyond the traditional inbound call center model.

  • Ensure Mission and Brand Alignment: Serve as one of the strategic gatekeepers to ensure all external partnerships and vendor integrations strictly align with Alberta Blue Cross's brand equity, regulatory compliance standards, and corporate mission.

Market Intelligence, Reporting & Revenue Growth

  • Analyze Market Share & Demographic Trends: Continuously monitor and analyze demographic shifts, competitor behavior, and emerging health tech trends to identify unserved or high-potential individual consumer segments.

  • Manage the Strategic Pipeline: Maintain an executive-level view of all active partnership negotiations, contract renewals, and associated pipeline, providing regular performance updates and forecast metrics to the Executive Leadership Team and stakeholders.

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with product development, underwriting, and IT infrastructure teams to ensure Alberta Blue Cross's backend operations can successfully support the scale and unique demands of newly acquired affinity groups and strategic networks.

WHAT YOU WILL HAVE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, or a related field would be an asset.

  • 7 to 10+ years of business development, partnerships, or corporate growth experience.

  • Proven track record of creating partnerships, resulting in increased business.

  • Strong consultative skills to engage internally and externally to operationalize market strategies.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.  Strong boardroom presence.

  • Ability to work cross-functionally and influence at multiple levels.

  • Experience in developing strategies to drive market growth in different industries.

  • Beneficial to have a robust network of relationships across the Alberta market.

This position will remain open until a suitable candidate is selected.
