The Role:

We are seeking a Backend Engineering Manager (Integrations) to lead a team responsible for building and maintaining mission-critical integrations across Arine’s platform. This leader will manage a group of engineers working in a Python-based AWS Lambda environment, driving integrations with external systems (mail, fax, SSO, EHRs) and ensuring Arine’s core services interoperate smoothly with partners and customers.

You will be both a people manager and a technical leader—mentoring engineers, shaping technical direction, and occasionally contributing code to guide architectural patterns and quality standards.

What You'll Be Doing:

  • Team Leadership & Strategy
    • Lead, mentor, and grow a backend engineering team focused on integrations
    • Define technical direction, best practices, and quality standards for integration services
    • Partner with Product and Clinical teams to translate integration needs into scalable solutions
  • Integration Ownership
    • Oversee development and maintenance of Arine’s Mailroom service, including connections with multiple third-party mail providers
    • Manage the Faxroom service, integrating with multiple HIPAA-compliant fax providers
    • Drive customer SSO integrations, including federated user provisioning with AWS Cognito and other identity providers (Okta, Azure AD, etc.)
    • Lead efforts for EHR integrations, with a particular focus on Epic and other leading health record systems
    • Guide API development aligned with FHIR API standards, ensuring interoperability with payer and provider systems
  • Architecture & Delivery
    • Ensure services are secure, reliable, and performant within Arine’s AWS Lambda environment
    • Implement monitoring, alerting, and observability for integrations to meet SLA and compliance needs (HIPAA, HITRUST)
    • Work with DevOps and Security teams to ensure best practices in IAM, Secrets Management, and PHI handling

Who You Are and What You Bring:

  • 7+ years of backend engineering experience with Python
  • 3+ years of engineering leadership/management experience
  • Deep experience building integrations with external systems in healthcare, fintech, or similarly regulated environments
  • Strong knowledge of AWS serverless architectures (Lambda, API Gateway, SQS, EventBridge, DynamoDB)
  • Hands-on experience with SSO and identity federation (SAML, OIDC, AWS Cognito)
  • Familiarity with EHR systems and HL7/FHIR standards
  • Track record of building secure, scalable APIs and services

Preferred Skills:

  • Prior experience integrating with Epic via APIs or Bridges
  • Knowledge of healthcare compliance frameworks (HIPAA, HITRUST, SOC2)
  • Background in event-driven or microservices architectures
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to mentor engineers at different seniority levels

Why Join Arine?:

  • Mission-driven company improving healthcare outcomes at scale
  • Collaborative culture emphasizing mentorship, growth, and technical excellence
  • Modern tech stack with opportunities to influence architecture and direction
  • Competitive compensation, equity, and comprehensive benefits

Remote Work Requirements:

  • An established private work area that ensures information privacy
  • A stable high-speed internet connection for remote work
  • This role is remote, but you will be required to come to on-site meetings multiple times per year. This may be in the interview process, onboarding, and team meetings
