Position Summary

The AVP of Claim Counsel is responsible for developing and implementing claim analysis and advocacy strategies. The role serves as a subject matter expert on complex issues and collaborates with internal stakeholders to innovate solutions for claims management. They represent the company in high-level negotiations, monitor industry trends, and drive initiatives for operational efficiency and strategic development, fostering strong relationships for organizational success in the specialty insurance market.

Job Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute advanced claims advocacy strategies by leveraging industry expertise, market insights, and data-driven analysis to improve claim outcomes and maximize client recoveries.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on complex and high-severity claims, providing guidance, technical expertise, and strategic direction to internal teams and clients.
  • Lead negotiations with insurance carriers, clients, legal representatives, and other stakeholders to secure favorable claim resolutions and protect client interests.
  • Stay informed of industry trends, regulatory changes, emerging risks, and market developments to proactively enhance claims advocacy practices and service offerings.
  • Conduct quality reviews, audits, and performance assessments to evaluate claims advocacy effectiveness, identify improvement opportunities, and ensure adherence to best practices.
  • Drive operational excellence by identifying process improvements, enhancing workflows, and optimizing resource utilization across the claims advocacy function.
  • Partner with underwriting, risk management, legal, and senior leadership teams to develop innovative claim management strategies and risk mitigation solutions.
  • Mentor, coach, and support Claims Advocacy Specialists, fostering professional growth, technical development, and high-performance team culture.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, insurance carriers, brokers, and industry partners, serving as a trusted advisor throughout the claims lifecycle.
  • Collaborate with leadership to develop and implement strategic initiatives that support business objectives, enhance client service, and strengthen the organization's position within the specialty insurance market.
  • Analyze claim trends and loss data to identify recurring exposures, provide actionable recommendations, and support long-term risk management initiatives.
  • Advocate for clients throughout the claims process, ensuring timely communication, effective issue resolution, and a superior client experience.

Work Experience and Education:

  • 6+ years of experience in insurance claims processing or claims management with a Bachelor's degree,
  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s of Law preferred.
  • Preferred fields of study: Finance, Legal, Insurance, Business Administration, or related disciplines.
  • Legal education (e.g., law degree) or related field experience is a plus.

The target salary range for this position is $160,000.00 - $200,000.00 annually.

The wage range for this role considers many factors, such as training, transferable skills, work experience, licensure and certification, business needs, and market demands. The pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. Full-time roles are eligible for bonuses and benefits.
