Job Description
Asc IT Applications Analyst – Smart M&DThis Asc IT Applications Analyst role is part of the IT Smart M&D Solutions team under Regulated Generation Solutions. The individual selected will become a member of a collaborative group that partners closely with both IT and business stakeholders to design, implement, and support robust and sustainable software solutions. The Smart M&D portfolio includes a broad array of products and tools focused on providing monitoring and diagnostics data, information, and predictive analytics to avoid costly failures of generation assets in both RRE and Nuclear.  It also includes a critical industry-accepted decision support system for hydroelectric generation.  Primary responsibilities for this role include developing new software and tools, as well as troubleshooting, debugging, repairing, and upgrading complex software applications.Responsibilities
  • Works with team(s) to assist in resolving break/fix, developing enhancements, and building software solutions.
  • Performs development tasks in specified programming languages and follows established design, coding, and source control standards.
  • Handles troubleshooting issues and implementing solutions for assigned tasks. Exercises sound judgment and works independently.
  • Provides technical support and communicates appropriate information including downtimes, change management, status, issues, defects, etc. to users, IT management and any other necessary audience. 
  • Performs routine maintenance for emergency patches, service packs, auth audit, and upgrades (software) for assigned application/project. 
  • Works with vendors to implement and/or support (broke-fix, defects, maintenance, patches, upgrades, service packages) applications and solutions.
  • Takes part in design and code walk-throughs.
  • Monitors production operation of and maintains the availability of applications in the RRE Solutions Smart M&D portfolio.  Involves reviewing and reacting to daily performance logs and providing 24x7 on call support. This position will be the primary analyst responsible for the nuclear-related solutions and support.
  • Responds to production emergencies (application down and logic errors) within the appropriate Service Level Agreement (SLA). 
  • Works with team(s) on responses for critical and high incidents, Major Incidents (MIs), major events. 
  • Utilizes appropriate Human Performance tools effectively in the course of activities, especially testing and implementation activities.
  • Develops in required programming languages, database SQL, report writing, ETL, etc. Assists with testing and migrating code through all environments.
  • Utilizes waterfall and agile methodologies to develop and maintain applications.
  • Researches and analyzes new technologies.  Participates in new pilots, POCs, and initiatives as required by the business.
  • Handles Change Requests and Quality Assurance (QA) documentation for project implementations and support changes.
  • Adheres to appropriate design, coding, source control, security, and change management standards.
  • Develops and maintains effective application technical maintenance documentation.
  • Ensures attention to required rigor and security best-practices as they apply to RRE systems, networks, security, and data.
  • Demonstrates ability to manage pressure and challenges in a professional manner.
  • Exhibits adaptability by effectively embracing change and consistently achieving positive outcomes.
Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's in Computer Science or related degree
  • Only previous Duke Energy interns/co-ops may be considered.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience building software solutions independently and as a team.
  • Understanding and experience with application design, development, and customer experience analysis.
  • Understanding and experience with database principles, SQL, data management and analytics.
  • Understanding and experience with JavaScript, Java, web development, mobile development and/or cloud.
  • Understanding and experience with cybersecurity principles.
  • Understanding and experience with software development lifecycle and Agile methodologies.
  • Experience with both new development and product support.
  • Ability to quickly adapt and comprehend complex technical environments and associated challenges.
  • Ability to resolve complex issues ranging from technology to vendor to business issues.  Demonstrated success in this area and an understanding of quality delivery.
  • Ability to communicate clearly, concisely, and accurately using oral and written communications.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and lead in a team setting.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with others having differing priorities/views/goals than your own; to meet your goals.
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and manage expectations.
  • Working knowledge of Duke Energy IT processes.
  • Self-driven, motivated, and proactive.
  • Experience working in Duke Energy.
  • Knowledge and experience with Regulated & Renewable Energy Smart M&D application portfolio.
Additional Preferred Qualifications
  • Taking ownership of a resource such as an application, initiative or measure.
  • Experience with schema/database design, vendor management, root cause analysis, Enterprise Standards and Process Adherence.
Working Conditions
• Hybrid – Work will be performed from both remote and onsite locations after the onboarding period. However, hybrid employees should live within a reasonable commute to the designated Duke Energy facility.
