The Associate Director of Statistical Methodology and Innovation works closely with other members of the Statistical Methodology team to implement vision and strategy of the Statistical Methodology and Innovation function within Global Biostatistics and Data Science organization. They will engage with Biostatisticians and other cross-functional team members to drive development of innovative statistical methods for emerging trial design and analytics problems.

Statistical Methodology and Innovation teams’ mission is to support and enable development teams to pursue optimal design/development options with sharpened focus on scientific rigor and innovation, operational feasibility, and resource efficiency across the BMS portfolio. Associate Director of Stat Methodology role will be involved in projects developing methodological solutions to statistical innovation problems identified by Global Biostatistics and Data Science organization.

Key responsibilities of this position are focused on 3 areas: 1) development of statistical methods and research and 2) providing statistical consulting to specific projects 3) developing tools and software to implement methodological solutions.  There also will be an opportunity for collaboration with cross-functional teams on long-term statistical innovation objectives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Formulates, develops, implements innovative novel statistical analysis methods and innovative study designs across therapeutic areas.
  • Translates scientific questions into statistical terms and statistical concepts into layman terms.
  • Communicates findings of their project-driven research to cross-functional teams, provides interpretation of their scientific results in a manner accessible to non-statisticians.
  • Functions as statistical lead on statistical topics influencing and advising senior leadership on issues that have business impact.
  • Continually develops technical knowledge of statistical methodology and build BMS external scientific reputation via publications and presentations. 
  • Continually enhances their knowledge of drug development process, regulatory and commercial requirement
  • Contributes to the development of more junior stat methodologists by providing mentorship and coaching as well as developing training curriculum for the broader GBDS organization.
  • Effectively communicates the GBDS Mission and Vision in a fashion that generates pride, excitement and commitment within GBDS.
  • Enables a culture of inclusiveness, respect for diversity, compliance with process and allows for the questioning and challenging of others in a respectful and constructive manner.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Ph.D. in Statistics/Biostatistics with 6+ years of experience in Pharmaceutical RD
  • Understanding of the application of biostatistics to medical/clinical trials data.
  • Solid track record of leading statistical innovation
  • Solid Experience in Clinical Trail Design and Analysis
  • Excellent knowledge of statistical design and documented experience of developing statistical models via publication record
  • Expertise in one of the following: Bayesian Methods, Adaptive Designs, Multiplicity, Survival Analysis, RWE, Decision Analysis
  • Perspective in leveraging innovative approaches to expedite drug development and address the complexities of emerging data
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
  • Ability to be flexible and adapt quickly to the changing needs of the organization
  • Ability to organize multiple work assignments and establish priorities.
  • Strong interpersonal skills evidenced in interactions with individuals at all levels of the organization and demonstrated ability to develop relationships within the organization and leverage the formal and informal organizational structure to assist in goal achievement.
