Job Description: Associate Dean and Campus Administrator – Northeastern University Charlotte

Position Overview

The Associate Dean for Northeastern University Charlotte is a critical senior leadership team member of the Charlotte campus. Reporting directly to the CEO/NU Charlotte Campus Dean with a dotted line to the Provost’s office, this role provides oversight and guidance across various functions, including academic program delivery, compliance and regulatory matters, faculty affairs, program innovation and research, and student services.
This position requires a visionary, innovative, and entrepreneurial leader capable of fostering collaboration and partnerships across academic and industry landscapes, both within and outside the university. Additionally, the role demands proficiency in working with students and faculty, as well as people and project management skills. The Associate Dean will play a pivotal role in the growth of the campus, enhancing experiential learning opportunities, working with stakeholders to ensure accreditation compliance, launching new and relevant programs to grow the Charlotte campus’ footprint and impact, providing an exceptional student experience, and contributing to fostering a strong community for faculty, staff, and students.
This role is critical to developing new and innovative entrepreneurship initiatives for the Charlotte campus. Specifically, this role requires a comprehensive understanding of the innovation, start-up, and entrepreneurship ecosystem across multiple sectors, with specific knowledge of the Charlotte entrepreneurship ecosystem. The ideal candidate will build and execute a new and innovative model for early-stage ventures, students, and faculty to co-create and imagine new areas of impact and collaboration at the campus and within the community at large. This work will be highly innovative and impactful. An established network within the entrepreneurial ecosystem and a track record of working with early-stage companies and students is key to success. The ideal candidate will demonstrate prior experience and have local contacts in life sciences entrepreneurship, particularly in health tech, med tech, public health, health informatics, and biomedical sciences innovation and startups.
The ideal candidate will be a seasoned leader who can inspire a team, has a proven track record of developing and retaining talent, and is an open-minded innovator and executor who drives action, has a sense of urgency, and is a catalyst for change. They must think strategically, demonstrate high personal accountability and initiative, and be comfortable solving complex, nuanced problems. We seek an exceptional and experienced servant leader with a high level of intellectual humility who thrives on bringing people together to solve shared goals. The Associate Dean will be adept at crisis management and solving problems quickly and thoughtfully, with advanced change management skills. This person will often serve as the campus lead in the absence of the Dean and have the ability to have difficult conversations when required.
Job Description: Associate Dean and Campus Administrator – Northeastern University Charlotte
Key Responsibilities

i. Start-up innovation for student and industry collaboration in partnership with stakeholders – 25%
o Build and execute a dynamic strategy to establish a start-up hub at the Charlotte campus by integrating local health science and healthcare innovators into the student and faculty experiential ecosystem to drive regional and network-wide impact.
o Identify and analyze market competition and business trends to inform strategic decisions and campus offerings to incorporate innovation, start-up, and entrepreneurship opportunities into the campus ecosystem.
o Bring together start-ups and students to find shared collaboration and opportunity areas, including integrating the student experience into the start-up hub and start-up expertise and mentorship into the academic setting.

ii. Recruiting and enrollment management with partnership from Enrollment Management, College Partners, and Regional Dean– 20%
o Collaborate with key stakeholders to create and implement a global enrollment growth strategy by diversifying academic offerings, innovating unique programs, and aligning with regional talent needs.
o Successfully integrate international programming onto the Charlotte campus by navigating F1 compliance with market interest and leading college engagement and innovation in partnership with key stakeholders.
o Scale campus enrollment growth to meet campus and global network KPIs.

iii. Student experience leadership – 15%
o Oversee student experience initiatives, ensuring a supportive and enriching environment for all students.
o Serve as the first point of contact for student concerns and provide appropriate triage in collaboration with colleges and global student services.
o In collaboration with the colleges and campus Partnership Director, work within the local Charlotte market and Southeast region to secure clinical, experiential, and co-op opportunities to expand enrollment and enhance student experiential learning.

iv. Academic planning and innovation in partnership with stakeholders – 10%
o Act as the primary liaison with Boston-based College Deans, Associate Deans, Program Directors, and regional network colleagues to ensure innovative, high-quality programs aligned with local and regional workforce needs in conjunction with the Provost’s office.
o Facilitate academic institution collaborations, including enrollment pathways and matriculation agreements with regional institutions that align with program growth on the Charlotte campus.

o Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure new programs are launched to meet the rapid pace of regional talent demand and campus growth goals.

v. Faculty engagement in collaboration with stakeholders – 10%
o Serve as the first point of contact and problem solver for faculty members, ensuring a thriving campus community.
o Oversee programmatic initiatives and foster academic innovation and research opportunities as a faculty partnership liaison.
o Work with the Provost’s office dotted line to ensure academic program delivery quality.
vi. Licensure, compliance, and accreditation in partnership with stakeholders – 10%
o In collaboration with the global regulatory team, ensure campus and program compliance with federal, state, and education accreditation bodies.

vii. Academic operations support in partnership with colleges – 10%
o Work with colleges and campus Operations Director to meet on-ground instruction modality requirements that satisfy program accreditation standards.

Qualifications

• Advanced degree in a relevant field (Ph.D. or Ed.D. preferred).
• Proven experience in higher education administration, focusing on partnerships and academic innovation. Seven to 10 years of relevant experience in higher education is required.
• Strong leadership skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously within a complex environment.
• Proven track record of successfully implementing and managing large-scale change within an organization.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with a track record of producing detailed documents and memos and building effective relationships across multiple verticals.
• Sophisticated understanding of the innovation, start-up, and entrepreneurship ecosystem across multiple sectors, with working knowledge of incubators and accelerators, linking start-ups to investors, and creating meaningful industry partnerships.

• Partner with College Deans, Associate Deans, Program Directors, and other stakeholders (Enrollment Management, Office of Global Services, Legal/Compliance, Registrar, Finance, Marketing, Recruiting, Student Services, etc.) to ensure successful program delivery and exceptional student experiences.
• Promote an organizational culture of impact, willingness to experiment, and belonging, and navigate ambiguity and complexity while advancing objectives.
• Collaborate closely with the CEO/Dean to develop, contribute to, and monitor strategic plans and projects that enhance the campus mission.
