About the Team
The US Large Enterprise Go-To-Market (GTM) Legal Team supports Workday’s diversified industries business on a wide range of issues, from contracts and legal strategy to compliance and risk management. Diversified industries includes manufacturing, communications, media, professional services, retail, hospital and transportation industry verticals. We help our business partners navigate the complex legal and contracting landscape and ensure they are operating in compliance with all applicable laws and regulations. The team provides legal advice and support to help Workday achieve their goals. We partner with the broader Workday legal team and other cross-functional teams to drive growth, improve customer experience and scale on our path to $10 billion in revenue.About the Role
The Assistant General Counsel, U.S. Large Enterprise, will drive optimization of our overall GTM Legal strategy, lead all aspects of the development and delivery of legal terms that provide customer focused solutions, and enable our innovation and revenue growth objectives. This role will lead cross functional initiatives which align to our GTM strategy for large enterprise and support our strategic growth initiatives. The ideal candidate will possess outstanding judgment and business insight and be comfortable, in taking care of customers, partners, senior management, and business and legal partners while leading as an innovative change agent to drive process and cultural innovation.
Responsibilities:
Collaborate with leaders across the sales organization to support strategic growth initiatives.
Innovate and operationalize the legal approach and legal strategy for large enterprise and new types of strategic relationships.
Lead and drive valuable diversified industries transactions, which will include negotiation with partners and customers, as well as support our professional services and customer success agreements, assignments, amendments, and add on transactions.
Provide proactive strategic advice and guidance to internal teams regarding business and legal issues and risks.
Assist in implementing legal efficiencies to support the large enterprise professional services and customer success business unit and improve our contract processes and operations in that segment.
Help build and improve contract templates and negotiation playbooks and provide internal training specific to diversified industries for sales, services operations, contract operations, and the broader GTM legal team on how we can create a streamlined contract experience.
Partner effectively with deal operations, sales, finance, revenue recognition, product legal, privacy, security, and contracts operations, as well as managing external legal counsel as required.
About You
Required Qualifications:
J.D. Degree and membership in at least 1 U.S. State bar.
15+ years of proven ability as a practicing attorney in a law firm or in-house/public sector legal department.
10+ years of experience supporting and negotiating in (or with) the diversified industries sector, supporting customer facing transactions, preferably with enterprise software/SaaS experience.

Outstanding contract negotiation and drafting skills.
Ability to partner with leadership in fast paced customer facing transactions.
Strong ability to influence, advise, and advocate for the business’ interests.
Outstanding written and oral communication skills, enabling effective communication with legal and non-legal audiences at all levels.
Exercises strong judgment and in tune with sophisticated needs of the business to advise clients in an effective and creative manner.
Nurtures internal and external relationships and leads project collaboration with cross-functional networks.
Ability to handle a high volume of transactions simultaneously.
Consistently applies focus, critical thinking and problem solving by appropriately weighing legal risks and business objectives.
Anticipates, identifies and analyzes legal risks and exercises good judgment and effective processes to drive solutions without guidance.
Proactively seeks out and leads projects using strong organizational and project management skills; drives and leads process improvements using standard methodologies and lean principles.
Willingness to drive creative solutions, build efficient processes and make sound decisions; not afraid to challenge the status quo or inspire change.

As a part of the total compensation package, this role may be eligible for the Workday Bonus Plan or a role-specific commission/bonus, as well as annual refresh stock grants.
