Job DescriptionWe are seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Assistant Financial Controller to join our finance team in Gaborone, Botswana. In this pivotal role, you will partner with the Financial Controller and senior management to drive financial excellence, optimize internal controls, and support the organization's strategic objectives. You will be instrumental in ensuring accurate financial reporting, maintaining robust compliance frameworks, and fostering a high-performing finance function that delivers measurable results.
- Assist in developing and executing the organization's financial strategy while supporting operational performance and financial planning initiatives
- Prepare, review, analyze, and present comprehensive management and statutory financial reports to stakeholders at various organizational levels
- Establish, implement, and continuously optimize internal control frameworks to ensure accuracy, compliance, and risk mitigation
- Manage and mentor finance team members, providing coaching, performance feedback, and professional development opportunities to build a collaborative and efficient department
- Oversee budget development, monitoring, and variance analysis; provide actionable insights to drive informed decision-making
- Manage cash flow forecasting, liquidity analysis, and working capital optimization to support organizational financial health
- Ensure compliance with local tax regulations, accounting standards, and corporate governance requirements specific to Botswana and the organization
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams and external stakeholders to resolve financial issues, implement process improvements, and drive operational efficiency
- Support capital expenditure reviews and financial due diligence activities as needed
- Maintain and optimize financial systems and databases; stay current with emerging technologies and best practices in financial management
**Required Qualifications:**
- Accredited professional accounting qualification (e.g., CPA, ACCA, or equivalent)
- Minimum 5 years of progressive managerial experience in finance or accounting
- Strong technical accounting, finance, and taxation knowledge with comprehensive understanding of internal control frameworks
- Proficiency in budget development, forecasting, and variance analysis
- Proven team management and leadership capabilities with ability to mentor staff
- Excellent communication skills and ability to engage stakeholders at all organizational levels
- Advanced proficiency with financial systems, accounting software, and Microsoft Office Suite
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with meticulous attention to detail
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines
**Preferred Qualifications: **
- Knowledge of Botswana's regulatory environment and local tax compliance requirements
- Experience with enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems implementation
- Background in hospitality, retail, or similar service-oriented industry financial operations
