We’re determined to make a difference and are proud to be an insurance company that goes well beyond coverages and policies. Working here means having every opportunity to achieve your goals – and to help others accomplish theirs, too. Join our team as we help shape the future.

Group Reinsurance Plus (GRP), a segment of the Employee Benefits Division at The Hartford, partners with insurance carriers and health plans to deliver private label employee benefits and reinsurance solutions.

We’re looking for a growth-minded sales professional who thrives at the intersection of market insight, consultative solutioning, and disciplined execution. As an Assistant Director of Sales & Business Development, you’ll work closely with the Director of Sales & Business Development to support GRP’s growth strategy, driving new client acquisition, strengthening prospect engagement, and delivering compelling proposals that convert opportunities into long-term partnerships.

Role Overview

As an Assistant Director of Sales & Business Development, you’ll support GRP’s go-to-market efforts by managing prospecting and pipeline activity, coordinating RFPs, and developing market-ready proposals and presentation materials. You’ll partner across underwriting, product, actuarial, implementation, and marketing to position GRP’s value proposition with carriers, health plans, and intermediaries.

What You’ll Do

  • Sales Targets: Support new client acquisition and annual premium sales goals. Contribute to sales strategy through prospect analysis and market data.
  • Data & Analytics: Support the Director of Sales in preparing and refining sales forecasts by analyzing pipeline activity and client performance metric data.
  • Business Development & Prospecting: Build and manage a prospect pipeline through targeted outreach, research, and prospect profiling. Tailor GRP messaging to stakeholder needs and track engagement in prospect management tools.
  • Proposal & RFP Management: Run the RFP process end-to-end—aligning data needs, coordinating inputs, and delivering timely, competitive responses. Develop proposals and finalist materials, support negotiations, and ensure a seamless handoff to relationship management for implementation.
  • Market Presence: Represent GRP at industry events and client meetings to build credibility, strengthen intermediary connections, and reinforce our value proposition.
  • Competitive Intelligence: Monitor key competitors and market dynamics, summarizing insights that sharpen positioning and differentiate GRP.
  • Client Education: Deliver sales training on GRP products and services and share relevant industry, regulatory, and competitive insights with clients and internal partners.
  • Marketing: Partner with Marketing to align campaigns, messaging, and materials that support sales goals and strengthen GRP’s market presence.

Why This Role Matters

You’ll play a key role in converting market opportunity into measurable growth, helping GRP deepen intermediary relationships, bring new reinsurance partnerships to life, and deliver high-quality proposals and insights that strengthen our competitive position.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years in group insurance/reinsurance/employee benefits with exposure to sales, business development, underwriting, and/or client management.
  • Knowledge of group products (disability, absence, life, supplemental health); awareness of trends/regulatory dynamics; reinsurance and administrative service agreement familiarity a plus.
  • Prospecting, proposal development, and RFP coordination experience; strong analytical, problem-solving, and influencing skills.
  • Strong writing, presenting, and stakeholder-management skills; able to tailor messages to senior leaders, clients, and intermediaries.
  • Proactive, self-directed teammate; comfortable representing GRP at client meetings and industry events.
  • Advanced MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Co-Pilot (presentations, proposals, forecasting/reporting, and data analysis).
  • Travel: Up to 20%.

This role can have a Hybrid or Remote work arrangement. Candidates who live near one of our locations will have the expectation of working in an office 3 days a week (Tuesday through Thursday) Remote: For candidates outside these locations, with occasional travel as needed.
