The Assistant Controller manages day-to-day accounting, oversees month-end close, maintains internal controls, and supports process improvements and audits.
Role Summary:
We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Assistant Controller to join our finance team. The Assistant Controller will be responsible for managing the day-to-day accounting function, assisting with financial reporting, maintaining strong internal controls, and contributing to process improvements as the company grows.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee and participate in day-to-day accounting functions including accounts payable, accounts receivable, journal entries, and general ledger maintenance
- Own month-end close process, including account reconciliations, accruals, and financial statement preparation, ensuring accuracy and compliance with accounting standards (GAAP/IFRS)
- Maintain and continuously strengthen internal controls, accounting policies, and procedures in alignment with GAAP. Serve as a key point of contact for external auditors and lead audit preparation and follow-ups
- Evaluate current accounting processes and systems to identify and implement improvements. Drive automation and scalability to support a growing company environment
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders including Operations, Lending, and Executive teams to ensure financial integrity and alignment. Provide support and oversight to junior accounting team members and contribute to their development
- Participate in and support strategic and ad hoc projects, such as ERP enhancements, system migrations, acquisition integration, or new product launches
Reports to: Director of Finance
Interacts with: Asset Servicing, HR, Legal, External Auditors, Finance Consultants, Leadership Team
Travel required: As needed
Location: anywhere in US (working hours in Eastern Time Zone)
Education and Functional Experience:
- CPA Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related field
- Minimum of 5+ years experience in accounting, with at least 3 years in a similar capacity
- Experience with QuickBooks or similar accounting software
- Experience working in banking, lending or financial institutions a plus
