Job Summary
Payscale is seeking an Analytics Engineer to join our business intelligence team and help build the data foundation that powers insights across our organization. In this role, you'll bridge the gap between raw data and analytics-ready datasets, working closely with both technical and business stakeholders to ensure our team has reliable, well-modeled data. The ideal candidate excels at combining their technical architecting skills with an ability to use data to answer business questions. An ability to effectively support cross-functional stakeholders is critical.
As an Analytics Engineer, you'll partner with our Senior Analytics Engineer to design and build scalable data models, collaborate with our Data Engineering team to bring new data sources into our warehouse, and work alongside BI Analysts to understand and meet their analytical needs. While primarily focused on data infrastructure, this individual may also be asked to build Tableau dashboards and conduct other ad hoc analytical work.
What You'll Do
Design and build dimensional data models in Snowflake that serve as the foundation for analytics and reporting
Write clean, efficient, well-documented SQL to transform raw data into analytics-ready datasets
Create reusable data models that can be leveraged across multiple use cases and business domains
Optimize query performance and data pipeline efficiency
Establish and maintain data modeling standards and best practices
Advance automation efforts that help the team spend less time manipulating & validating data and more time analyzing and story telling
Partner with business stakeholders (Sales, Customer Success, Finance, Product) to understand data needs and business logic
Work with Data Engineering team to scope, prioritize, and integrate new data sources into the warehouse
Collaborate with BI Analysts to understand their analytical requirements and build datasets that enable self-service analytics
Translate business requirements into technical data specifications
Participate in requirements gathering and solution design discussions
Develop monitoring and alerting mechanisms to maintain integrity and reliability of the data warehouse
Investigate and resolve data issues or errors in the data warehouse and work to solve the root cause
Create and maintain documentation detailing data models, data dictionaries, and business logic
Build reports and dashboards to surface key metrics to the business (e.g., Tableau)
What We're Looking For
3-5 years of professional experience in analytics, data engineering, or related technical role
1-2 years of experience in an analytics engineer, data engineer, or similar data modeling role
Expert-level SQL skills including complex joins, CTEs, window functions, and query optimization
Strong data modeling experience with demonstrated ability to design dimensional models
Experience working with cloud data warehouses (Snowflake, BigQuery, Redshift, or similar)
Proven ability to translate business requirements into technical data solutions
Strong communication skills with ability to work effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
Analytical mindset with attention to detail and commitment to data quality
Experience with data visualization tools and knowledge of best practices (Tableau preferred)
Experience with Salesforce (or other CRM) and manipulating the corresponding data in a data warehouse
Proficiency with Git (or similar version control) and CI/CD best practices
