Job Description:

The AI Architect at Epiq, part of Legal Solutions and reporting to the Director of Operations Engineering, is responsible for maintaining and enhancing the company's AI initiatives.  This multifaceted position encompasses leading the design, development and deployment of artificial intelligence and machine learning across our products and platforms while maintaining high security and compliance oversight.  The AI Architect will set the technical vision for AI initiative, ensuring scalability and reliability of the systems and guide the team in apply AI responsibly and effectively to solve business challenges.

This role requires a balance of hands-on technical expertise and high-level system design, with a focus on building robust AI platforms, frameworks and pipelines that accelerate innovation and deliver measurable value.

Essential Job Responsibilities

  • Define the overall AI system architecture, including model development, training pipelines, data flows and deployment strategies
  • Evaluate and select appropriate AI frameworks, tools and platforms
  • Ensure solutions are scalable, performant and secure in production environments
  • Advocate for best practices and responsible use of AI and modern technologies
  • Partner with product owners and stakeholders to identify and implement AI where it can provide value
  • Work closely with engineers and developers to deliver end to end AI solutions
  • Mentor team members in AI best practices, architecture and emerging technologies
  • Translate complex AI concepts into actionable plans for business and technical audiences
  • Guide teams in developing, training and deploying AI
  • Oversee the integration of AI into products and services
  • Conduct technical reviews of AI solutions for quality, maintainability, security and compliance
  • Act as a conduit to the IT and DevOps teams

Requirements for the role include:

  • 5+ years of experience in software engineering, data science and/or ML/AI engineering
  • 3+ years of experience in an architectural role
  • Strong background in machine learning, deep learning and data science principles
  • Proficient with AI/ML frameworks and libraries
  • Strong programming skills in Python, .NET stack or similar
  • Experience with cloud AI/ML/GenAI services
  • Familiarity with ML Ops tools (Docker, Kubernetes, Kubeflow, MicroVM, etc)
  • Strong understanding of data privacy, security, compliance and responsible AI practices
  • Must be able to facilitate solutions across departments and teams in a collaborative manner.
  • Strong communication, situational awareness and organizational agility skills.
  • Must be self-directed and foster initiative in others.
  • Must be able to translate larger business goals into actionable items for their team.
  • Demonstrable experience with coaching, training and developing team members using an inspirational and motivational approach that aligns with Epiq’s unique organizational culture.
  • Consistently displays managerial courage when solving organizational challenges.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and proactively in written and verbal interactions with an aptitude for explaining technical concepts to non-technical audiences
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment both as a team player and individual contributor

Preferred Requirements/Certifications

  • Strong understanding of networking and infrastructure
  • Strong understanding of the software development life cycle
  • Experience leading cross-functional AI initiatives in production environments
  • Experience working across organizational boundaries in an partnership role with development, operational and IT teams.

The Compensation range for this role is 150,000 to 175,000 USD annually and may be eligible for an annual bonus.

Your specific salary will be determined based on several factors:

  • Location-based market rate for the role

  • Your abilities in relation to the job specification

  • Performance during screening and interview

  • Pay parity with the wider team in the considered location
