As an Advanced Project Engineer here at Honeywell Aerospace, you will support advanced Aerospace & Defense programs within the Engines & Power Systems organization. This role is responsible for leading the planning and execution of engineering development projects supporting military aircraft systems, Auxiliary Power Units (APUs), propulsion technologies, and sustainment programs.

You will serve as the primary technical and project focal point, coordinating cross-functional teams to ensure technical, schedule, cost, and customer requirements are successfully achieved. This position requires strong project leadership, technical aptitude, and the ability to drive program execution through influence and collaboration rather than direct people management.

The ideal candidate will bring Aerospace & Defense industry experience, a proven track record of leading engineering projects, and the ability to work effectively with engineering, manufacturing, quality, supply chain, and customer stakeholders in a highly regulated environment.

You will report to the Sr Eng Program Manager, and work out of our Phoenix based site on a hybrid schedule. 

Relocation support may be provided.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead engineering projects through the full product lifecycle, including development, testing, qualification, production support, and sustainment activities.
  • Develop and maintain project schedules, budgets, technical plans, milestones, and deliverables.
  • Serve as the primary engineering focal point for assigned projects.
  • Coordinate and lead cross-functional teams to achieve program objectives and deliverables.
  • Ensure compliance with technical requirements, customer specifications, contractual obligations, and internal processes.
  • Manage project scope, technical requirements, risks, assumptions, dependencies, and configuration changes.
  • Facilitate technical decision-making and problem resolution across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Communicate project status, schedules, risks, budget performance, and technical issues to engineering leadership and key stakeholders.
  • Drive execution of engineering work to meet cost, quality, reliability, and schedule commitments.
  • Interface directly with U.S. Government, military, and aerospace customers to support program execution and maintain strong customer relationships.
  • Collaborate closely with Repair & Overhaul, Manufacturing, Quality, and Systems Engineering teams to investigate and resolve in-service issues.
  • Support design reviews, technical reviews, risk assessments, and customer presentations.
  • Apply Earned Value Management System (EVMS) principles and support government compliance requirements where applicable.
  • Prepare, review, and approve technical documentation, engineering reports, and project deliverables.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on engineering effectiveness, quality, and program execution.
Qualifications

YOU MUST HAVE

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in a technical discipline such as the sciences, technology, engineering or mathematics. 
  • Minimum of 5 years of mechanical systems engineering, project engineering, or product development experience within the Aerospace & Defense industry.
  • Demonstrated experience leading engineering projects or work packages with responsibility for technical execution, schedules, budgets, and deliverables.
  • Experience working with military aviation, aircraft systems, propulsion systems, APUs, gas turbine engines, or other complex aerospace products.
  • Knowledge of engineering development processes, requirements management, verification and validation, and configuration management.

WE VALUE

  • Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Aeronautical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related engineering discipline degree.
  • Experience supporting Department of Defense (DoD), military aviation, or government-funded aerospace programs.
  • Familiarity with auxiliary power units (APUs), gas turbine engines, propulsion systems, or aircraft power systems.
  • Experience with aircraft development, certification, qualification, testing, or sustainment programs.
  • Knowledge of Earned Value Management System (EVMS) principles and government program execution requirements.
  • Experience interfacing directly with government customers, defense contractors, or military organizations.
  • Background in reliability engineering, root cause analysis, corrective actions, and field issue resolution.
  • Experience with systems integration and aircraft subsystem development.
  • Working knowledge of Lean, Six Sigma, or continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Understanding of risk management and program execution within highly regulated environments.
  • Ability to effectively coordinate cross-functional teams and influence stakeholders without direct supervisory authority.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and presentation communication skills.
