Overview of the Position
This is a key role that supports the Crosslines team within the Actuarial Reserving Department. This is a strong individual contributor role with responsibility for maintaining and enhancing quarterly processes that aggregate reserves across all P&C lines. In addition, this position is responsible for the completion of statutory requirements and a variety of regular and ad hoc reporting in support of the Reserving Department. This role will gain insights into reserving processes and analysis across all P&C lines and has high visibility to management. In addition, this position will require establishing relationships with business partners and stakeholders in actuarial, claims, business segment, underwriting, and finance. This role will also provide support to innovate and advance our key reserving initiatives.
 

Responsibilities
Responsibilities include:

  • Provide reserving support across the department to all P&C lines, including:

    • Coordinating quarterly timelines and deliverables by considering key milestones

    • Developing subject matter expertise of the department-wide reserving process by maintaining and enhancing files that aggregate all lines for meetings with the Executive Leadership Team and Board of Directors

    • Working closely with the Crosslines Director to prepare summary materials for the Chief Reserving Actuary & Reserving AVPs in preparation for key meetings with the Executive Leadership Team

  • Provide support for maintaining and enhancing the department’s data repository by developing subject matter expertise of the TM1 Reserving Database.

  • Prepare materials for the completion of statutory requirements and other periodic deliverables that compile reserving data.

  • Propose and implement efficiencies on the team with a focus on reducing complexity and increasing accuracy to produce high-quality, timely work.

  • Provide support for key reserving initiatives, including the Navigators integration into the TM1 Reserving Database.

Experience & Skills

  • Individuals with 3+ years of actuarial or related experience; past or current experience in reserving preferred, but not necessary.

  • Open to non-actuarial candidates with strong operational and process management skills.

  • Strong technical and analytical skills; advanced knowledge of excel; experience in ResQ, TM1, and SQL preferred.

  • Self-motivated and proactive candidate with the ability to manage time effectively by prioritizing in an environment with multiple responsibilities.

  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy with a motivation for problem-solving.

  • Solid teamwork skills including ability to effectively collaborate with individuals in various functions at different organizational levels.

  • Effective written and verbal communication skills with the ability to convey technical concepts to audiences of various levels and diverse technical backgrounds.

Compensation

The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford’s total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:

$93,120 - $139,680
