The opportunity

An Actuary Analyst I within our pricing group helps to accurately and efficiently produce rate filings, state expansion filings, respond to filing objections, and develop tools to monitor all aspects of Root’s pricing and competitive position . An actuary analyst I is a key member of Root’s quantitative science department and works closely with other actuaries and data scientists. Additionally, they work cross functionally with members of State Product Management, Product, Engineering, and Insurance regulatory.

Salary Range: $65,800 - $82,000


How you will make an impact

  • Prepare rate filings and engineering implementations.
  • Execute pricing initiatives including initial state roll-out and rate changes for auto and renters products.
  • Evaluate and analyze data, including quarterly indications, to develop recommendations for pricing improvements and strategic goals.
  • Support filing objections with thorough, accurate, and effective analysis and communication


What you will need to succeed

  • 2-3 actuarial exams
  • Proficiency in excel
  • Demonstrable ownership mentality, taking initiative to find, prioritize, and be accountable for the highest impact work
  • Commitment to analytical rigor and problem solving skills
  • Exceptional communicator
  • Preferred but not required
    • 1+ years auto/home pricing experience
    • Experience with R or Python
    • Experience with databases and SQL
    • Experience communicating with state regulators
