About the Role

Fieldguide is looking for an Accounting Manager to help run and scale our accounting function as the company grows. Reporting to the Corporate Controller, this person will be a hands-on owner of the monthly close and several core accounting areas, while helping us build more efficient, automated, and scalable processes. This is a good fit for someone who has worked in a startup environment, can independently work through unfamiliar problems, and is excited about using modern systems and AI to improve how accounting work gets done.

What You’ll Do

  • Own significant areas of the monthly close, including journal entries, reconciliations, accruals, variance analysis, and financial reporting.

  • Manage accounting for key areas such as revenue, accounts receivable, payroll, commissions, operating expenses, prepaids, and fixed assets.

  • Review contracts and business activities to identify and resolve accounting implications.

  • Own and continuously improve accounting workflows in Rillet and other tools within our finance technology stack.

  • Build processes and controls that improve accuracy without creating unnecessary complexity.

  • Use AI and automation to reduce manual work and improve the speed and quality of the close.

  • Partner with Strategic Finance and teams across the company to ensure transactions are recorded correctly and issues are addressed early.

  • Support the annual audit, tax filings, and other compliance requirements.

  • Take ownership of new accounting projects as the company and our products continue to evolve.

Who You Are

  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, ideally including experience at a high-growth startup or SaaS company.

  • Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and experience managing a monthly close.

  • Experience with revenue recognition and other accounting issues common to subscription software businesses.

  • A track record of independently researching problems, developing a point of view, and driving issues to resolution.

  • Strong critical-thinking skills and the ability to identify when a process, transaction, or result does not make sense.

  • Comfort operating in an environment where processes may still need to be created or improved.

  • Experience using AI tools in day-to-day work and curiosity about how they can improve accounting operations.

  • Clear communication skills and the ability to work effectively across teams.

Bonus Points

  • Experience with Rillet.

  • CPA and/or public accounting experience.

  • Experience improving or automating accounting processes in a scaling organization.
