What is the Opportunity?

You will gain hands-on experience in financial analysis, reporting, modeling, forecasting and process improvement while collaborating with diverse teams and leaders across RBC.

What will you do?

Responsibilities will vary by team

  • Prepare, analyze, and interpret financial results, forecasts, budgets and variance reports
  • Develop and enhance financial models, dashboards, and data visualizations (Excel, Power BI, Tableau, or other tools)
  • Assist with month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes, including journal entries, reconciliations and disclosure reporting
  • Conduct data analysis to identify trends, risks, and opportunities, supporting strategic decision-making
  • Support internal control processes, compliance requirements, and regulatory reporting
  • Partner with business unit to provide financial insights and recommendations
  • Identify and implement opportunities to automate, streamline, or improve financial processes
  • Participate in ad-hoc projects, performance measurement initiatives, and special analyses

What do you need to succeed?

Must have

  • Currently enrolled in a Canadian post-secondary institution in Finance, Accounting, Business, Economics, Mathematics, Statistics or related discipline
  • Eligible to complete a work term starting January 2027 (4, 8, 12, or 16 months)
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with high attention to detail and accuracy
  • Proficiency in MS office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Effective communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Ability to work collaboratively and independently and adapt in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to prioritize, handle multiple tasks under pressure and meet time-sensitive deadlines

Nice-to-have

  • Previous co-op or work experience in finance, accounting, data analytics, or financial reporting
  • Knowledge of financial reporting, derivatives, financial products and concepts (balance sheet, liquidity, etc.)
  • Experience using analytical tools and managing large data sets
  • Experience with coding or analytics tools (Python, VBA, SQL, R, C, HIVE) and/or data visualization tools (Power BI, Tableau)
  • Knowledge and an understanding of financial statement analysis
  • A genuine interest how financial instruments are priced, traded, and structured
  • Experience of leveraging technologies including AI to provide in-depth analytics and enhance workflow
  • Interest in pursuing a CPA or CFA

Please note: 

In order to be eligible for these student positions, you must either: 

  • Be returning back to school after the work term end-date; or 
  • If you are not returning back to school (i.e. are graduating immediately after the work term), you must require the full work term as a mandatory component in order to graduate successfully
